Thriller Flick ‘The Perfect Guy’ And Horror Flick ‘The Visit’ Lead The Box Office Just In Time For The Spooky Season

After last weekend’s Straight Outta Compton versus War Room battle, the box office is now looking a bit more seasonal. With Halloween around the corner, two gasp-inspiring films lead the box office this weekend, but one did significantly better than the other.

Sony Pictures released The Perfect Guy on 9/11, a thriller featuring Sanaa Lathan, Michael Ealy, and Morris Chestnut, and it premiered at No. 1, with $9.95 million in ticket sales, according to Forbes. This weekend’s success so far brings The Perfect Guy up to $16 million in sales, which means after just three days, the film is already making a profit. Falling just behind this weekend is The Visit.

According to a few reviews, The Visit is an entertaining enactment of what happens when a trip to grandma’s goes horribly wrong. This weekend, The Visit reportedly brought in $1 million of after-midnight sales. The film, which took a mere $5 million to create, is now up to $17 million in box office sales. Being the two new films in the box office, the Nos. 1 and 2 spots of The Perfect Guy and The Visit are followed by last weekend’s favorites.

Yes, War Room is still going strong and outselling Straight Outta Compton. Last weekend, War Room was up to $24.7 million in box office sales, while the N.W.A biopic had over $150 million, but only brought in just over $8 million last weekend. This weekend, War Room brought in $7 million, while Straight Outta Compton only brought in $5 million. The War Room took the No. 3 spot with Straight Outta Compton following at No. 4. Coming in fifth, A Walk In The Woods’ popularity appears to be dying down.

Last week, semi-new film A Walk In The Woods managed to bring in $8.3 million, but only could sell $4.5 million this weekend. The film’s popularity reportedly dropped by a whopping 45 percent in just one week. It is expected that the film will fall out of the top five once films like The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials are released in the coming weeks.

With the Perfect Guy and The Visit only having been opened in theaters for a week, sales will likely go up due to word of mouth, as it has previously for War Room and Straight Outta Compton. No matter which film takes the No. 1 spot next week, box office history has already been made, as this weekend marks the fifth in a row where films with African-American leads have held the No. 1 spot in the box office.
