Kermit The Frog Gives ‘The Muppets’ A Boost With His Love Life Troubles

Kermit the Frog and all his friends are getting ready for their return to television, but fans of the furry creatures will not see the variety series of old. The Muppets is all-new, and it is now a series being created for the reality television generation.

ABC is bringing back the The Muppets for a documentary style series that will take fans behind the scenes to see what life is like for Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and the rest of the gang. The series will follow their day-to-day lives. This includes their romantic lives.

The love life of Kermit the Frog has been in the “news” a lot lately because of the new series. Last month, the news broke that Kermit and Miss Piggy had broken up. The couple has been together from the start of The Muppets franchise.

The news of the split is all very tongue-in-cheek, but it is still generating buzz for the series. Kermit and Miss Piggy both released statements about the split to their Facebook pages on August, according to CNN.

“After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, Miss Piggy and I made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will continue to work together on television (“The Muppets”/Tuesdays 8pm this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter. Thank you for your understanding.”

Since that announcement, new reports have popped up that Kermit is dating someone new. In fact, it is a new pig named Denise. She works on The Muppets, and ABC released a photo of the “other woman” on Tuesday, according to People Magazine. Kermit revealed that Denise is the head of marketing for ABC, and he went to social media to clear up the rumors surrounding him and Denise on Tuesday.

After the release of the photo of Denise and Kermit sharing a moment together, ABC released another photo, but this one features Miss Piggy and Kermit in the midst of an intense argument. Word has it that it is their last argument. They split during the heated conversation.

Kermit has been the more vocal of the two since the split. He has spoken about the relationship in interviews and during press conferences. People Magazine shared Kermit’s comments made after the split.

“It can be tough to work with your ex. It can be tough to be the executive producer on your ex’s late-night TV show, especially when your ex is a pig. I don’t know whether any of you have ever dated pigs.”

Miss Piggy also spoke about the split at the press conference. She said that, “I have no problem working with my ex, okay? It’s fine. It’s totally healed. Dating moi is like flying close to the sun. It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens.”

Miss Piggy has not spoken about the split since then, but she has been flirting up a storm in ABC promos and on social media. On Tuesday, she took a moment to flirt with William Shatner on Twitter. A photo of Liam Hemsworth and Miss Piggy has also been released on social media. He will appear on the series during the season.

This new The Muppets is far from the original series. The break-up of Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog has helped the series gain attention before the premiere on ABC later this month. This new mockumentary format will take fans completely behind the scenes and try to show that the muppets are “just like us.” Us Magazine shared a new selection of photos of Kermit and the gang that try to show that.

This adult take on The Muppets is not new. Brian Henson spoke about his father’s work in an interview recently, according to Kotaku. Jim Henson envisioned a more adult program when he began the original The Muppets Show four decades ago. However, the series was pushed into the children’s entertainment category.

“The years with the Muppets, it was really all targeted to adults. It was in a time when everything had to be safe for the whole family. But he was targeting adults.”

Does it make sense that The Muppets is making fun of reality television programming? Yes, it does. When the first series premiered, it was during a time when variety shows were big on television.

That is not the case anymore. Reality television is big on television, and Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have brought their friends back to television with something for their loyal fans to enjoy.

These headlines about Kermit dating Denise and the split from Miss Piggy are great advertisement for the series. The stories are not meant to be taken seriously, but the split is a part of the fun that makes The Muppets fun to watch.

What do you think? Will you be tuning in to watch The Muppets on ABC later this month?
