By now, you’ve likely heard that Matt Barnes implied that he’s dating Rihanna , which was denied by Rihanna on Instagram in a rather grand fashion.
Since Rihanna’s Instagram denial, music and sports fans alike have taken to social media to make light of Matt Barnes and his alleged relationship with Riri. So much for those Rihanna dating rumors.

A quick Rihanna dating recap: The whole Rihanna-Matt Barnes thing began last week when rumors began flying that the pop star and NBA player were dating. Soon after, Barnes spoke to TMZ , implying that he and Rihanna had been on a few dates.
“Rihanna’s my friend right now, so we’ll see where it goes. I think it’s just past the crush stage, just a little bit.”
It didn’t take long for Rihanna to set the record straight. On Sunday night, Rihanna took to Instagram with a freeze frame from Barnes interview, as well as a series of hashtags implying that Rihanna has never even met Barnes .

Barnes responded to Rihanna’s Instagram post with a comment of his own.

Of course, social media went wild with Rihanna’s claims that she’d never even met the NBA player, and almost instantly Barnes became the butt of many jokes on Instagram and Twitter.

As one Twitter user notes, simply being an NBA player doesn’t allow one to insinuate that he is dating Rihanna , and Sports Illustrated went so far as to explain why Rihanna should date Barnes.

Glamour may have had one of the best Twitter responses to the entire incident, though, as the media outlet posted an image of Riri simply waving her finger as if to shut down Barnes and the dating rumors.
