‘Chicago Med’ Spoilers: Big Casting News And Crossovers Teased

Chicago Med will soon join Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. on NBC, and fans of the Chicago family of shows are receiving even more details about Season 1 of the medical drama. There is some new casting news available, and Chicago Med has snagged Torrey DeVitto for a role. The actress was previously seen on The Vampire Diaries and Army Wives. She still has a recurring role on Pretty Little Liars.

She is not the only Vampire Diaries alum to join the Chicago family on NBC. Taylor Kinney appeared briefly on the series during its early seasons, and Steven R. McQueen was cast as the new candidate for Firehouse 51 on Chicago Fire earlier this summer, according to a previous Inquisitr report.

According to Deadline, Torrey DeVitto has joined the cast of Chicago Med as a pregnant emergency room doctor named Dr. Lilly Manning. She is one of three female roles being cast for the series following the exit of Laurie Holden.

Laurie Holden appeared on the backdoor pilot for the series that aired last season on Chicago Fire. Holden announced her departure earlier this week. Entertainment Weekly shared her departure statement.

“I am so grateful to Dick Wolf, my fellow cast members, NBC and the entire Chicago Med team for their understanding. Sometimes we must make tough choices and, for family reasons, not doing Chicago Med is one of those for me at this time. I know the show is going to be a huge success and I’ll be watching.”

Dick Wolf spoke about Chicago Med and the possibility of a fourth Chicago spin-off at the TCA’s on Wednesday. He made it clear that the focus is on making sure Chicago Med is a success before adding any more to the Chicago plate.

“There would never be a fourth unless [Chicago Med] works. If this works, who knows what is possible in the future. The concern of everybody now is to make this show have the same impact that Fire and P.D. have had.”

Chicago Med is currently slated to premiere in November with a 13-episode order. The back nine is assured if the series is successful. A crossover for all three Chicago shows and Law & Order S.V.U. is already planned for February 2016, according to Wolf.

There are also two additional crossover episodes for Law & Order S.V.U. and two of the Chicago shows planned, and a crossover with the three Chicago series. Wolf spoke about the crossovers at the TCA’s.

“The crossovers are incredible ratings engines for us. What we can’t do is have them become commonplace. [There are] three this season, but they won’t include all the shows.”
