Anderson Silva: UFC Middleweight Contender Blames Failed Drug Tests On Using Sexual Enhancement Supplements

Throughout MMA’s history, there have been standout fighters remembered for their accomplishments. In the sport’s heyday, Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock helped pave the way. After them, Tito Ortiz and Matt Hughes. And more recently, we have Jon Jones and Ronda Rousey.

Unfortunately, some standouts simply fall on hard times. Anderson Silva, the UFC contender who holds the record for the longest championship defense streak, is such a case. First, he lost back-to-back fights to current UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman back in 2013. Then earlier this year, “The Spider” was flagged as a PED user when he failed a drug test, testing positive for anabolic steroids.

Apparently, when it comes to the latter of the pair of aforementioned misfortunes, Anderson Silva is really stretching it. He actually blames his failed drug test on the use of sexual enhancement supplements.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Anderson Silva blames testing positive for both Drostanolone and Androstane, which are two common anabolic steroids, on using a sexual enhancement supplement. Silva’s blame is backed by documents exclusively obtained by Evelyn Rodrigues of Combate, in which it reads the testing of said sexual enhancement supplement was contaminated with an Exogenous Anabolic Agent: Drostanolone metabolite.

With the documents, Anderson Silva plans to appear in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Thursday to address the failed drug tests. He and his legal team will use the information to formulate a defense, as reported by Yardbarker. And to be frank, it may be possible that Silva did indeed fail the drug tests due to sexual enhancement supplements. In the past, Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall did go on record stating notable NFL players have used Viagra to enhance their performance on the field. But then again, if blaming Viagra for testing positive for steroids were a suitable defense, why aren’t more athletes using it?
