Kurt Cobain Posthumous Solo Album Gets November Release Date Along With ‘Montage Of Heck’ DVD And Blu-Ray

The music of Kurt Cobain will once again be alive in November when his solo album comes out. According to NME, the soundtrack for the Kurt Cobain movie, Montage of Heck, will be released on November 6, which is the same day as the biopic’s DVD release.

Brett Morgen, the director of the biopic, scoured through more than 107 cassette tapes containing 200 hours of recording that Kurt Cobain left behind after his death. While doing his research for the film, he stumbled across new material from the Nirvana frontman, including “a sketch comedy routine featuring Kurt voicing all of the characters,” unreleased music, as well as “audio montages that Kurt created.”

“It was clear we were sitting on a treasure chest of unheard Cobain gems.”

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck was started by Morgen in 2007 after Courtney Love, Cobain’s widow, approached him with the idea. The director was given complete access to all the archives Kurt Cobain left when he died, and it is the only documentary about Cobain that was created with his family’s full cooperation. You can view the trailer for Kurt Cobain’s biopic below.

Montage of Heck premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and had a limited theatrical release. It was also aired on HBO in May, and now, fans can have their own copy of the film when the DVD and Blu-ray versions are released in November.

Consequence of Sound notes other details to be expected of the new Kurt Cobain solo album, which has not yet been named, as Morgen describes it.

“These are all just Kurt by himself with the guitar. These aren’t multi-track, finished songs or work-ups, but they’re extraordinary, and I think they provide a tremendous insight into his [creative] process. I think they further our understanding of Kurt, both as a musician and as a man.”

In other Kurt Cobain-related news, Courtney Love and her daughter with Kurt, Frances Bean, have petitioned a judge not to release suicide photos of the deceased Nirvana frontman. There has been controversy surrounding Kurt Cobain’s death, even after 21 years, with some accusing Love of being responsible for his passing.
