First ball is scheduled to be bowled at the Sussex home stadium, BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground, at 6:30 p.m. British Summer Time on Wednesday, August 12. In the United States, the match begins at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time, 10:30 a.m. Pacific.
Sussex finished the 14-game T20 Blast group stage season second in the South Group, with a 7-5 record, plus a pair of no-results, for 16 points. The Steelbacks recorded an identical record, good for third place in the North Group.
Fans of England cricket will find the match an intriguing one, with one of England’s greatest T20 and one-day batsmen in Luke Wright, 30, on the Sussex side, and a new national side addition, 25-year-old all-rounder David Willey, playing for Northants.
Willey made his T20 International debut in England’s thumping 56-run victory over New Zealand on June 23 in Manchester. Wright, on the other hand, not only has 51 T20 Internationals under his belt, he has played in almost every major T20 league in the world since debuting with Sussex in 2004, including Australia’s Big Bash and the Indian Premier League.
Wright has scored more runs in the shortest, most action-packed format of cricket than all but nine other batsmen in the history of T20. And his five T20 centuries place him in elite company, with only West Indies superstar Chris Gayle and New Zealand Captain Brendon McCullum ahead of him in that category.
Sussex will also see the return of another England star, as fast bowler Chris Jordan makes his comeback after finally recovering from a painful side strain during England’s dramatic one-day series against New Zealand two months ago.
