Apple’s iPhone 6s Set For September Unveiling, Find Out When And What’s Coming
Apple’s yearly iPhone releases are just about as reliable as the seasons changing, and this year looks to be no different as the Cupertino tech giant is rumored to be just a month away from showing off the newest additions to its bestselling line, the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus.
Everyone expected that Apple would be rolling out a new iPhone some time this year, and we’ve seen a few reports here and there pegging the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus for a mid-September release window. Now, it looks like those reports may well have been on point, as Buzzfeed is citing sources familiar with Apple’s plans in saying that iPhone lovers will get their first look at the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus during the week of September 7, with the most likely date reportedly being Wednesday, September 9.
The newest iPhones wouldn’t be hitting store shelves on September 9. Instead, that would be the date that Apple holds a media event to show off the new devices. Buzzfeed‘s report is in keeping with earlier reports that Apple was looking at September 18 to open pre-orders for the new iPhones, with the official launch coming on September 25. Showing them off on September 9 would give Apple a bit over a week to build hype for pre-orders, inevitably leading to yet another record-breaking iPhone launch.
If previous leaks regarding Apple’s plans are to be believed, the next iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will largely be tech upgrades of their preceding models, though Apple does appear to have at least one big development in mind. This year’s iPhone models, according to Apple Insider, are rumored to feature reworked display technology that will bring pressure-sensitive Force Touch capabilities to the iPhone. The same tech is currently seen in some of Apple’s MacBooks, as well as the Apple Watch, and it would allow users a greater range of interaction possibilities, with the ability to “click” on things on screen as well as tap them.
Also, the new iPhones are expected to pack improved cameras, improved wireless connectivity, and significantly faster processors.
The rumored September media event wouldn’t focus solely on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, though. Apple is also said to be getting ready to show off the newest version of its Apple TV set-top box. The Apple TV has become a solid seller for Apple, and the company looks ready to take the device to the next level, with refreshed hardware, Siri support, and a touchscreen remote said to be in the offing.
Apple might also show off its long-rumored iPad Pro, a bigger-screened iPad meant to breathe new life into the tablet segment. That device, though, could also simply wait until Apple’s expected October iPad media event.
In the meantime, though, Apple fans can rejoice. It definitely looks like we’ve got about a month until we catch our first look at the next generation of iPhone and iPhone Plus.
