Kim Richards Committed To Hospital By ‘A Concerned Family Member’ [Video]
Kim Richards has entered a California hospital after being arrested for shoplifting at a Target in the San Fernando Valley, close to Los Angeles. Richards was checked in by a concerned family member, and is reportedly desperate to escape the hospital setting, a source close to Kim reported to Us Weekly.
It’s been a rocky ride for Kim Richards since losing her home last June after she was arrested for public intoxication, and now it’s gotten so bad that Richards has been committed to a hospital. Kim’s sister, Kathy Hilton, said Richards had been doing “really well” in a California treatment center, but once Kim left, she returned to her old ways.
Kim Richards was arrested on Sunday, August 2, for alleged theft after she was found with more than 100 items from Target. The total dollar value of the items Kim allegedly stole was $612, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney. Although there is no word about whether Kim was using controlled substances, it’s clear there’s a reason she’s in the hospital.
“Her family checked her in,” the source told Us Weekly exclusively. Kim “wants to get out ASAP, but her family refuses.”
Kim Richards spent the night in jail on Sunday, but was released the next day on $5,000 bail, and her family took her straight to the hospital, according to Us Weekly. Kim pleaded not guilty to the charges, and will have her day in court on August 20.

This isn’t the first time she’s been in hot water due to substance abuse issues. Kim was previously arrested for public intoxication, battery, and resisting arrest after she had a drunken altercation with Los Angeles police at the Beverly Hills Hotel last April. This time, her family is taking Kim seriously, and has had the reality star committed to a hospital, reports PerezHilton.com.
It seemed that Kim was doing well in rehab, but she checked herself out of the hospital after just 30 days.
“I love sobriety,” Richards confessed in an interview last July. “I’ve always loved sobriety, and relapsing was very hard for me. It was not easy.”
In that interview, Kim revealed she wanted to enter a hospital treatment center because she’s tired of her family — the same family that has had her committed to a hospital for her own safety.
“I have to say, don’t take this wrong, but I really wanted to go to treatment because I needed a break from what I was going through at home,” Richards said.
