Seattle Seahawks rumors have a new contract offered to quarterback Russell Wilson. These Seahawks rumors indicate that it would make Wilson one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. A report from CBS Sports states that Wilson was offered nearly $21 million per season in this new deal. The site also reported that other top-earning quarterbacks are Aaron Rodgers ($22.0 million), Ben Roethlisberger ($21.85 million), Cam Newton ($20.76 million), Matt Ryan ($20.75 million), and Joe Flacco ($20.1 million). This salary bump would put Wilson alongside them.
If no deal is put in place during the offseason, Wilson will enter the 2015 NFL season with a salary at $1.54 million. It is the final year of his rookie contract with the team, which is why the Seattle front office and his agent are trying to come to terms on a big extension. Thus far, it hasn’t seemed like a lot of progression has taken place, with quite a few Seattle Seahawks rumors about Wilson wanting to be the highest-paid QB in the entire league coming out.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, there are a number of NFL analysts, general managers, and coaches that don’t think Russell Wilson is a top-tier quarterback. This had been addressed in prior Seattle Seahawks rumors, as it could be a reason why the front office in Seattle has been so hesitant to make him the highest-paid player in the NFL. While many fans have assumed that it is just a matter of time till Wilson signs a deal with the Seahawks, it still hasn’t taken place.
Former Seahawks head coach Mike Holgren weighed in with his thoughts on the situation, speaking about the risks that Wilson would be undertaking if he doesn’t accept the raise immediately. Even with one year left on his contract, an extension could replace that salary with a nearly $20 million raise for the 2015 NFL season. A report from CBS Sports quoted what Holgrem had to say on the topic.
“He’s gonna sign a huge contract, in the $20 million-plus range, I would guess. And to not sign it, and to play this year for [$1.5 million]. They always run the risk of injury. To make another million bucks in a hundred million dollar contract over five years doesn’t make any sense to me at all. And I would tell him that. If he asks me, I’ll tell him. And that’s why I think he’s making a mistake.”
These Seattle Seahawks rumors are starting to make Russell Wilson look bad, even if that isn’t the intent of the organization during the negotiations. What it seems to indicate is that Wilson feels he should be paid more than Aaron Rodgers, which is a fact most NFL analysts and fans would disagree with.
