Frank Mir Vs. Fedor Emelianenko: UFC Fighter Says It Would Be An Honor To Fight ‘The Last Emperor’

On Wednesday, July 15, 2015, Frank Mir once again stepped into the Octagon, this time facing off against Todd Duffee at UFC Fight Night 71 in San Diego, California. It was a pivotal fight for Mir since he was following up from a KO win against Bigfoot Silva about five months ago at UFC Fight Night 61. Was Mir doing his best to make a comeback or was his four-loss streak snapped by a fluke? The answer came in another first round KO win when Mir knocked down Duffee with a left jab/left hook combination followed by some vicious ground-and-pound.

Summarized, it seems Frank Mir is on the upturn in his career again. He has made it known he would like to fight another phenomenal monster in MMA, one who just recently got out of retirement: Fedor Emelianenko.

According to MMA Mania, Frank Mir gave his insights about Fedor Emelianenko at the UFC Fight Night 71 Post Conference. After answering questions about his fight against Todd Duffee, Mir was asked a hypothetical question pertaining to Emelianenko: If UFC signed “The Last Emperor,” would Mir be interested in fighting him? Mir didn’t mince any words that it would be an honor.

“The guy [Fedor Emelianenko] is a very powerful, explosive and very savvy fighter. An opportunity to face him would be a huge, huge honor. My interest on a selfish side would want him to face someone else first so he showcases to everybody that he is still a monster and a scary dude. Remind maybe the modern fans who Fedor is. And after that, yeah. I faced a lot of the greats over there from PRIDE, Nogueira being one of them. Cro Cop, phenomenal fighter, who now is also making a rejuvenation of his career. So, going out there and facing somebody like Fedor, absolutely.”

It should be noted that UFC signing Fedor Emelianenko does have its hurdles, simply because he and his representatives haven’t always seen eye-to-eye with UFC President Dana White, as reported by Bleacher Report. Nevertheless, if all the kinks could be worked out, a Frank Mir vs. Fedor Emelianenko fight would be a huge draw for UFC, one that may help White see plenty of dollar signs.
