Safaree Samuels Gets Candid About Nicki Minaj, Says Meek Mill ‘Wanted Her’ Before They Broke Up

Safaree Samuels and Nicki Minaj may have both moved on since calling it quits last year. As Nicki gets closer to current boyfriend Meek Mill, Samuels is speaking out about the true reason he and Minaj abruptly ended their nearly 12-year relationship.

During an interview with This Is 50, Samuels spoke out against rumors that suggest he is furious with Meek Mill for “stealing” Nicki Minaj away from their decade-long romance. When asked if he felt betrayed by Meek Mill for dating his ex, Samuels insisted that he and Meek Mill were never friends in the first place, HipHopDX reports.

“I knew him. We weren’t friends. We was cordial. It’s obvious that everybody wants her. I don’t look at n****s and be like ‘Yeah, this is my boy right here. He would never do that.’ No n***a, every n***a wants her. I’m not dumb. I got cousins who used to hit me up and say dumb s**t.”

While Samuels admits he wasn’t surprised that Meek Mill showed interest in Nicki before they had even broken up, Safaree insists that it wasn’t the reason behind his breakup with Minaj. When asked if Nicki called things off because he cheated on her, Samuels insists that they simply grew apart.

“Nah, that wasn’t the problem. Nah, that wasn’t an issue. It’s just people outgrow each other, you know? It’s just high intense situations and just being around somebody for so long things just—A lot of things change. People change. Things around you change. So, situations just change.”

Samuels made headlines last month after he allegedly dissed ex Nicki Minaj in his new track, “Love the Most,” in which he accuses Minaj of cheating on him with Nas.

“I ain’t saying I’m the best, no one will love you like I did / 12 years up in flames, thought you woulda had my kid / Year 3 got engaged, now we movin’ out of rage / I ain’t never think our book woulda ended on this page / Had to watch you kiss Nas and pretend it’s all cool / Inside I was feelin’ like a motherf****** fool.”

Once Nicki heard about Samuels’ diss track, Minaj took to Twitter to set the record straight about the real reason behind their split, telling fans that it was Samuels who was unfaithful to her.

“Don’t make me do this. Lesson: don’t cheat on a loyal woman. God will punish u. When he does, tell people the truth. The truth may set u free.”

Samuels later defended himself against Minaj’s claims, admitting that Nicki was also guilty of cheating while they were still together, BET reports.

“It’s a two-way street. I’m not perfect, nobody’s perfect.”

Samuels also denied claims that suggest “Love the Most” was aimed at Minaj, insisting that he didn’t intend to diss Minaj in the track.

“It’s just me explaining where I’m coming from. I ain’t tryna beat nobody down or nothing like that. It’s one song, I had a whole album written about me.”
