Taylor Swift’s $50,000 Donation To Child With Cancer Causes GoFundMe To Raise Giving Limits

Taylor Swift’s recent donation of $50,000 to a little girl battling cancer has resulted in GoFundMe raising its giving limits.

Swift’s donation made on July 7 to Naomi, an 11-year-old girl battling leukemia, has changed the way GoFundMe does business. When the singer learned that Naomi, a huge fan, would have to miss out on an upcoming concert due to her June 25 diagnosis, Taylor donated a total of $50,000 to Naomi’s GoFundMe campaign and sent a special message to the little girl, according to People.

“To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I’m sorry you have to miss [my concert], but there will always be more concerts. Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”

Since the funding site’s donation limit at the time was capped at $15,000, the singer made four separate donations to the campaign to equal the $50,000.

Due to Swift’s generosity, GoFundMe has raised its giving limits, according to GoFundMe CEO Rob Solomon.

“On July 7th, a young girl battling cancer named Naomi got a huge surprise when her favorite singer, Taylor Swift, donated $50,000 to her GoFundMe campaign. Naomi and her family were understandably surprised and grateful for such a generous gift. Taylor Swift’s donation was so generous that it required us to increase the donation limit on the platform.”

The family initially set Naomi’s campaign goal at $30,000 to help pay for the child’s medical bills. As of Friday, donations to the campaign total $74,335.

In this video capturing Naomi’s response to Taylor’s message, the little girl expresses sheer joy and jokingly says she may pass out.

Naomi is not the only one overwhelmed by Swift’s generosity, as an update on the little girl’s campaign page indicates.

“I just received this video from Dan…Naomi was so amazed by Taylor Swift’s donation and amazing shout out to her. Thank you Taylor Swift. You’re an amazing caring person, and our family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts.”

This is not the first time Taylor Swift has donated to a family in need. As the Inquisitr previously reported, the “Bad Blood” singer made a generous donation of $15,000 just last month to a firefighter who responded to a head-on car accident, only to find his wife and son were among the victims.

While the singer does not comment on the donations she makes, according to GoFundMe, she is the biggest donor on the site.

“Including gifts to other campaigns, Taylor Swift has given more than any other donor in GoFundMe history. What Ms. Swift has done for Naomi and others can inspire the next generation of giving.”
