The Vampire Diaries fans were upset last year to hear that Nina Dobrev would be leaving the show, but Elena Gilbert will return. At least, that is something Ian Somerhalder believes. He says that the way the character was written out of the show makes it possible for the character to return at some point.
The question is what she will look like and who will be left in Mystic Falls. Elena has been forced into a sleep until Bonnie Bennett dies, and everyone knows that Elena would not want Bonnie to sacrifice herself for her. It is clear that Bonnie would not be around for Elena’s return, considering the requirements of Kai’s spell, but the Salvatore brothers will still be there. Caroline could also still be around, considering she is a vampire. However, if Bonnie lives until old age, it would possibly mean that Matt, Tyler, Jeremy and many others will have passed on by this point.
According to KpopStarz , Somerhalder has said that The Vampire Diaries will be very different without Elena for now. It is giving the writers a chance to get back to the storytelling in the first two seasons. There is also the possibility that the original Damon will make a reappearance, since Elena is not there to balance out his dark side. Seeing the two brothers against each other will be a popular storyline for many original Vampire Diaries fans.
It looks like season seven will have three new vampires make their way to Mystic Falls. Two of those vampires will be the show’s first same-sex couple, something that fans have said the show has been missing for a while. It is unclear which side the three vampires will be on, and whether they will link to either Salvatore brother in any way.
According to Melty , the three vampires will be in their 20s and all female. Nora and Mary Louise will be The Vampire Diaries’ lesbian couple, and have a shared interest in murderous activities, suggesting they are a little evil.
There will be a time jump between the season six finale and the premiere of The Vampire Diaries seventh season. This opens the door further for Elena Gilbert’s return, but nobody has confirmed just how far into the future the time jump will be. The Vampire Diaries will make a return to the screens from October 8, with spin off The Originals following it on the CW network.
