On Young Thug’s ‘Slime Season’ Mixtape, Production Is Key

Young Thug is the definition of unpredictable. There hasn’t been a more colorful character in rap since Flava Flav. Young Thug is ready to give us new music. His Slime Season mixtape is on its way. Expect to see it by July 4.

Young Thug follows Lil Wayne’s every footstep. You can be sure he’s stalking him, spying on him, and staking him out. Even after a failed attempt to name his previous mixtape in honor of Lil Wayne and getting a lawsuit in response, he’s still in copycat freak mode. As Music Times reports, Slime Season is coming out on Independence Day, the same day Lil Wayne will release his Free Weezy Album.

If you’re not sure what to expect from this project, you can see about tracking down the leaked “Be Me See Me.” I’m sure it will be hard to find after appearing and then disappearing from the internet. You may also want to check out some other projects produced by London On Da Track. The Atlanta-based producer provided beats for every track on the mixtape.

What will make or break this mixtape once it drops two Saturdays from now is London On Da Track. He’s a favorite producer of Young Thug. He’s signed to Cash Money Records. Cash Money Records head Birdman and Young Thug have both praised London’s skill. Slime Season should be a telling effort for the 24-year-old producer, who had a string of hits last year.

Young Thug played a big part in London even getting a record deal. London and Young Thug grew up in the same part of Atlanta. Young Thug introduced London to Birdman, and the rest is history in progress. London told XXL of his collaborations with Thug.

“Me and Thug met back in the day, probably ’08 or maybe even ’07 through one of my partners named Skolly with the music stuff. We were all in the same circle, so we would all go out and perform together. We were in the streets together, we were in the studio together, we were everywhere together. We were all from the same side of town.”

London started as a professional musician and a piano player in church before spreading beats for free across Atlanta to the likes of Young Thug and others. These days, he’s in the studio producing up to 10 tracks a day.
