The 22-pound part-Himalayan cat that terrorized a Portland, Ore., family may have an appointment with the “cat whisperer.”
Jackson Galaxy, the star of My Cat from Hell on the Animal Planet network, is scheduled to visit the family soon to work with their pet in question, Lux. The four-year-old feline made national headlines when owner Lee Palmer called 11 for help about the “very hostile” pet on March 9.
Lux — who apparently has a history of aggressive behavior — will be featured in an episode during the show’s fifth season which premieres on April 26.
During the incident, Palmer told the 911 dispatcher that the angry feline scratched his infant son. When Palmer kicked the cat in the butt, it “went over the edge,” in his words, and the whole family wound up trapped in the bedroom by the cat until cops arrived.
Fortunately the baby only suffered minor injuries in the attack
Lux is currently housed in a Portland-area animal shelter, “but the family assured Animal Planet they were going to keep the cat and agreed to therapy with Galaxy.”
Commenting on the 22-pound cat that terrorized the Portland family, Jackson Galaxy explained that there is probably something deeper going on that prompted the Lux to act out. “Every parental site on the Internet blames the cat for this confrontation. Every pet site blames the family. We need to step away from the hysteria. There is a story behind all this. Don’t assume anything.”
Given the national and international attention on the 22-pound cat attack, the upcoming episode of My Cat from Hell is likely to be a ratings winner for Animal Planet. Whether Jackson Galaxy’s cat therapy will be actually effective for Lux remains to be seen, however. Another question is why would a similarly situated family with a new baby in the house take a chance on keeping a cat under these circumstances.
