Mattel Releases ‘Hunger Games’ Barbie
Mattel, the huge doll manufacturer has never shyed away from expanding their brand past the popular barbie model to delve into branding film dolls. This time around Mattel has decided to dip their hands into The Hunger Games craze by creating their very own vision for the lead character, Katniss Everdeen.
The barbie doll of Katniss Everdeen isn’t on the market just yet, but EW revealed the exceptional crafted work behind the newest Hunger Games merchandise. In the past Mattel’s iconic barbie doll has featured sparkling dresses and mountains of tool behind the different fashioned outfits.
Katniss Everdeen isn’t in her reaping gown, instead, in the vein of the film The Hunger Games she’s featured in her battle outfit, complete with a mini mockingjay pin for good luck, a bow and arrows, orest-tromping boots, and her hair in her signature large braid in the style that actress Jennifer Lawrence wears throughout the film.
The lead designer behind the Katniss Everdeen barbie doll is Bill Greening, who’s one of the principle designers for the barbie collection. In order to capture Katniss, Greening really took a close eye on evaluating the character in the series. He goes on to explain, ”The doll’s minimalistic style and details — such as her loosely braided hair and makeup-free look — also really embody the heroic character Katniss.”
Greening goes on to speak more about what ignited his process for creating the Katniss Everdeen barbie, “I chose to dress her in the outfit she wears during the games, since this is where all the non-stop action takes place and is instantly recognizable by fans. Of course, she wears her mockingjay pin proudly on her lapel.”
The Katniss Everdeen barbie will be available in August.
