WWE News: NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks Says She’ll Main Event On The Main Roster Too
The women in WWE NXT are changing the industry. It started with AJ Lee and Paige, who are both former-WWE Diva’s champions. After the ages of Trish Stratus, Lita, and Mickie James ended, there was a lull in women’s wrestling inside the WWE. Then, Lee grabbed the brass ring and took the WWE Diva’s division to the next level once again.
In the current state of women’s wrestling, Nikki Bella is still the WWE Divas champion. Some WWE fans are traditionalists and like to see a woman with wrestling skill, such as Gail Kim, carry the strap for a major company. Give Bella credit, as she’s worked very to hard to get where she’s at.
Even though Nikki Bella is doing a great job with the WWE Diva’s championship, there are four women in WWE NXT who will take that position from her. Bayley, Sasha Banks, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch are considered the Four Horsewomen of WWE NXT. Sasha Banks, the current-NXT Women’s champion, is at the forefront of this revolutionizing group.
During a Sam Roberts’ podcast, Sasha Banks talked about the NXT Women’s division and her ascension to the main roster. She wants to main event on the WWE main roster too.
“Wait until I get to the main roster, just wait, and then we will be main-eventing that too. We’re slowly taking over and you can see that on the main roster right now, where girls like the Bella’s are having two segments with Paige. It’s a small step but it’s a step in the right direction. They are given that time and they are killing it. We have to do it as a union, a women’s union, taking over. It is going to get bigger and better. The opportunity of when I do get to the main roster… oh yeah, a lot of changes are coming” Banks responded.
Big things are certainly coming for WWE NXT, as Finn Balor and Kevin Owens will wrestle for the NXT championship in Japan on July 4. That’s the same show that will see Neville take on Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar vs. Kofi Kingston. As of right now, there aren’t womens matches on the card, but they are getting the respect they deserve.
Along with the show in Japan, the WWE might land an appearance at the Manhattan Center in August. That show alone would enhance the popularity of the brand. Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Bayley, and Becky Lynch are the future of women’s wrestling and WWE NXT is just the start. When Banks says she’ll main event WWE Raw, believe her.
