For Sydney Leroux, “soccer player” is her identity, and soccer is what she loves most; but Sydney also loves tattoos. Canadian born Leroux is a standout player for the U.S. women’s team, and along with her crazy kicks and “ infamous goal-scoring face ,” she’s covered her soccer player’s body with at least 15 tattoos .

Sydney works hard to keep her body in tiptop tattoo shape. In addition to garnering several endorsements in her professional career as a top soccer player, Leroux has done some modelling gigs too. In a Fox Sports video, Sydney talks about her tattoos and what they mean to her.

“I love tattoos. It’s like a way to express yourself without saying anything.”

Leroux took some heat for being the player with all the tattoos, but she has no intention of getting rid of the ink. She says it “ represents her life ” and is as important to her as soccer.

Sydney got her first tattoo when she was only 13. She was on her way to the Canadian nationals and made a deal with her mom. “Hey mom, if I score 10 goals, can I get a tattoo?” Her mom said yes. Leroux played soccer like only a talented, determined teenager can, and scored 13 goals. Back home again, the first thing Sydney did was hit the tattoo parlor to get “a giant soccer ball emblazoned in flames” inked into her back.

When Leroux moved to the U.S . to follow her dream of playing soccer on the American women’s team, “the best women’s soccer in the world,” she kept adding tattoos. At one of her first practices with coach Les Armstrong’s Sereno Soccer Club, Sydney showed up with her shirt lifted up to show-off a new tattoo half hidden under slathered cream. Armstrong was not impressed.

“I was like, Holy hell. Never show me anything like that again.”

Sydney has the most tattoos of all the soccer team, but she’s not the only player with ink. Megan Rapinoe , soccer player extraordinaire and a midfielder for the team, also has two small tattoos. The one on her left biceps says, “Nature ran her course,” and the Arabic on the inside of her right wrist means, “Trust yourself.”

Sydney is married to pro soccer player Dom Dwyer, a forward for Sporting Kansas City, who has his own reputation for a ripped body, and a collection of tattoos.

They’re a good match, says Dwyer.

“She’s a beautiful person, and I’m not one to really keep my shirt on too much.”
