Caitlyn Jenner Faces Another Lawsuit Related To Fatal Malibu Car Crash
Caitlyn Jenner is facing another lawsuit in connection to the fatal car crash that occurred on February 7 in Malibu. Jessica Marie Steindorff, the driver of the Prius involved in the accident, filed suit Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court against the former Olympian, previously known as Bruce Jenner.
According to CNN, Jessica Steindorff alleges in her lawsuit that Jenner operated a vehicle “negligently, carelessly and wantonly” and caused the fatal collision that left a person dead and five injured. TMZ reports the Prius driver says she suffered several physical injuries from the accident, but the lawsuit does not specify the nature and extent of those injuries. Steindorff is seeking unspecified monetary damages.
As TMZ reports, Steindorff’s Prius was sitting in traffic on February 7 when Jenner’s Escalade plowed into the back of the car after having hit a white Lexus driven by Kim Howe. The impact sent the Lexus into oncoming traffic. Howe was killed when her car crashed head-on with a Hummer. Jenner was not injured in the accident.
Steindorff’s lawsuit lists the defendant as “Bruce Jenner a/k/a Caitlyn Jenner.”
Although this is the first lawsuit that the former Olympian has faced as Caitlyn Jenner, this is not the first lawsuit to be filed as a result of the fatal Malibu crash. Kim Howe’s stepchildren, Dana Redmond and William Howe, filed a wrongful death suit against Jenner last month, claiming negligence. Redmond and Howe are seeking unspecified monetary damages in that case. The relationship between Howe and her stepchildren is being called into question, however, by Jenner’s legal team, who are working to have the lawsuit dismissed. Caitlyn’s attorneys argue that the stepchildren have no legal standing to sue Jenner because the two were not financially dependent on their stepmother.
As the Inquisitr previously reported, Jenner appeared to blame the victim killed in the accident back in February when she spoke with the authorities investigating the accident. At that time, Jenner insisted the accident could not have been avoided because Howe slammed on her brakes without warning. At the time, investigators felt Jenner was following Howe’s Lexus too closely. After the accident, the ex-Olympian issued a statement to those involved in the accident.
“My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident. It is a devastating tragedy and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible.”
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, all survivors of the crash are cooperating in the ongoing investigation.
Caitlyn Jenner will likely not face criminal charges relating to the February 7 crash.
