Tiger Woods’ Future In Question — Experts Weigh In After His Worst Round Ever

Is Tiger Woods’ future in question? What legacy is he going to leave? Those are some of the topics on everyone’s mind as Woods is coming off the worst round of his professional career. It has been close to seven years since Tiger tasted a major victory. The last PGA Tour event he won was back in 2013.

Tiger dominated golf for well over a decade. After having his marital problems broadcast over national television, he took a break from golf for a while to reevaluate his career. With the exception of the 2013 season, he has never been back on track. He has seen his fair share of coaches and injuries in that time period, but this past weekend’s performance have many questioning whether Woods can ever be even a shadow of what he once was.

One-time PGA Tour Champion turned Golf Channel Analyst, Brandel Chamblee, had some of the most critical comments of Tiger Woods future from a USA Today article.

“I don’t know that it’s sad, it’s mysterious, because time hasn’t robbed Tiger Woods of his game. He’s done this to himself. He’s traded his genius for the ideas of others. I don’t think anybody can think of a situation analogous to this – somebody at the top of their sport that completely abandoned the method that got them to the top of their sport. Tiger did that not once but twice, not twice but three times, and he’s back at it now. And you always felt along the way, at least I felt, that sooner or later it would catch up with him, and it has clearly caught up with him.”

Former six-time Major Champion, Sir Nick Faldo, also thinks we might be seeing Tiger Woods future fading.

“Shooting 85 here is a sledgehammer to the side of the head. Tiger is going to walk away saying to himself ‘what am I going to do next? How do I pull this back?’ I’m not too sure how much more he can handle in all of this.”

However, not all analysts and players from the past think that Tiger Woods is washed up. In fact, the man who Tiger has chased all of these years seems to think he still has what it takes. In fact, Jack Nicklaus spoke to CBS on Saturday, and the PGA Tour website passed on his words of encouragement.

“Tiger’s running from teacher to teacher. In today’s technology, I think Tiger just needs to go back and review some of his own things rather than listen to somebody else. He’s the only one inside him who knows what’s really going on. He’s the only one who’s been able to fix what he’s got. I think he’ll get it back, I still do. He’s just too focused, he’s too hard of a worker, and he’s got such a great work ethic. It’s just going to be a lesson for him. He’s got to help himself, and he’s got to get where he can take the golf club, and take it back and know where the ball is going. Please go do that, because the game needs you, Tiger. You’re a good player, you’re a good guy and we miss the game you’ve been playing.”
