‘Pitch Perfect 2’ Success Could Make ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ Happen

Weeks have passed since Pitch Perfect 2 released in theaters worldwide, and people are still gaga over the phenomenal comedy musical. In fact, the tremendous success of Pitch Perfect 2 made fans wonder if a Pitch Perfect 3 is on the horizon.

Pitch Perfect 2 director Elizabeth Banks says in an interview with Access Hollywood that there might be a chance for a sequel.

“We’re thinking about it, we’re thinking about it very seriously.”

While Banks has not put out a final yes regarding Pitch Perfect 3, we are hearing great feedback from the cast and the producers, all looking forward to a possible sequel to the movie. Banks explains, “Of course we’re at the very beginning of that process.”

Variety reports that as of last month, Pitch Perfect 2 has already surpassed the $125 million mark. This is tremendous success for the Pitch Perfect sequel since the first movie grossed only a total of $65 million at the domestic box office. To date, the sales from Pitch Perfect 2’s first weekend already earned five times the total sales of its predecessor and was reported to rank second in the biggest PG-13 comedy debut of all time.

Everything is working tremendously well for the Pitch Perfect franchise, especially for Pitch Perfect 2 director Elizabeth Banks who debuts as a first time feature-film director. Pitch Perfect 2 was also reported to be the second highest-grossing opening for a film by a female director.

Banks adds that if all goes well, she would love to make Pitch Perfect 3 happen, since even she, herself, fell in love with the movie’s characters.

“We would love to spend more time with these characters that everyone’s fallen so hard in love with.”

Lead character from the two Pitch Perfect movies, Anna Kendrick, is also ecstatic about the success of Pitch Perfect 2, but is on her toes when asked by Time Magazine about the possibility of a third installment.

“I’m not one to count my chickens, so I just want to see how this one does and find out if there’s an appetite for that before I even think about it.”

In fact, Kendrick adds that she too was caught off-guard by the success of Pitch Perfect 2. She reveals that she was hesitant about doing Pitch Perfect 2 at first because she was worried about the first movie not doing too well.

However, Kendrick’s co-stars are not as guarded as her when it comes to looking forward to the future. Actress Rebel Wilson, most commonly known as her Pitch Perfect character, Fat Amy, expressed her excitement for a follow-up and tells The Hollywood Reporter that Pitch Perfect 3 could look more into her character.

“All the Bellas are coming together becoming a legit singing group out of college. I also think a Fat Amy origins story would be awesome.”

Pitch Perfect 2 actresses Skylar Astin and Anna Camp are also very excited for a possible Pitch Perfect 3 and pitches in Taylor Swift as an additional cast member.

“I think that Taylor Swift would make a great Bella. I really think she would. I think it would be an even bigger movie!”
