Adam Nimoy, son of the late Leonard Nimoy, still plans to release a documentary about the beloved actor and his role as Mr. Spock. The film promises to include “never-before-seen home movies” and Star Trek artifacts that haven’t been seen in 50-odd years. The new venture is titled For The Love Of Spock, and aims to raise $600,000 for the movie in a Kickstarter campaign.

For The Love Of Spock is “a project that was important to my dad and has become extremely important to me,” Nimoy’s son wrote, according to Rolling Stone magazine. The movie’s Kickstarter page has already raised more than $58,000 from more than 800 people, according to the International Business Times. According to his son, Leonard was committed to the project, gathering many of the photos of the Nimoy family, and of the actor dressed as Spock.

The movie was a concept that both Nimoy and his son developed together to celebrate the Spock character. The funding from the Kickstarter campaign will be used to interview Leonard Nimoy’s friends, colleagues, and family members for the film.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr , Leonard Nimoy wanted to bring the movie to fruition before his death. The documentary will tell the tale of Nimoy’s life and his role as the beloved Star Trek character, Spock.

The movie will be produced not only by Nimoy’s son, but also by David Zappone, Kevin Layne, and Joseph Kornbrodt of 455 Films, a Los Angeles-based company that has made several Star Trek documentaries, according to the International Business Times . It will be narrated by actor Zachary Quinto, who played Spock in the most recent Star Trek movies.

After Nimoy’s death, his son was overwhelmed with the public response to his father’s death — from President Obama to long-time co-star William Shatner — that he decided to continue forth with the movie to honor not only Mr. Spock, but his father as well.

Nimoy’s son posted a video on the movie’s campaign page, which states, “Last year, my father and I began working on a documentary about the life of Mr. Spock. We were both very much aware that the 50th anniversary of Star Trek the original series was coming up in 2016 and we wanted to create something to commemorate that event, a documentary based primarily on Mr. Spock had never been done before, and we both felt strongly about paying tribute to the half-human, half-Vulcan first officer of the Starship Enterprise.”
