Girl Band G.R.L Breaks Up Nine Months After Fellow Member, Simone Battle, Committed Suicide

Nine months after the death of their fellow band member, Simone Battle, 25, committed suicide by hanging, the girl group G.R.L decided to call it quits, according to Billboard.

On September 2, 2014, G.R.L band members – who came together in 2013 – and fans got the shock of a lifetime after learning Battle was found hanging in her Los Angeles home.

Investigators ruled it a suicide.

After finding out about the loss of their band member, G.R.L tweeted the following.

“Words cannot express the depth of our loss. Simone’s incredible talent was only surpassed by the size of her heart. We will carry her memory with us in everything we do.”

“You can never prepare yourself for something like this, ever,” said Bennett.

“We’d just been in rehearsals the day before, learning choreography for our show, and the next day we were starting the morning as usual when we got the call.”

“I still can’t believe it. I don’t think any of us can. It’s weird that we’re even sitting here, talking about it.”

Although G.R.L was heartbroken over the passing of their band member, they continued on as a foursome and have stated they wouldn’t break up. However, just nine months after the tragic incident, the girl group called it quits, according to Daily Mail.

Their record label announced the departure via Facebook post, which stated as follows.

“Nearly 9 months following the tragic death of band member Simone Battle, girl group G.R.L. announces today that they are disbanding.”

“We wish them continued success in each of their next creative endeavors.”

Following the announcement, Bennett thanked her fans via twitter for their support throughout the years.

“Thank u all for ridin with GRL thru the tough times…I know it’s all a bit confusing but I love you all, and care never forget.”

“There was never a question that we weren’t going to break up,” Bennett said. “We didn’t know what was going to happen — we really didn’t even think about it. We just got back together and just continued to do what we’re doing today, to stay close, and that’s just how it is. That’s where we are now.”
