‘Fifty Shades Of Black’: Marlon Wayans Spoof Gets Acquired By Studio

Fifty Shades of Grey is officially getting its own big-screen spoof thanks to Open Road Films.

According to Variety, the studio gave the spoof film a green light with Scary Movie actor Marlon Wayans on-board as a leading actor and writer.

That’s right! Fifty Shades of Grey fans and critics alike will get a chance to see the 2015 box-office hit receive a dose of the classic Wayans treatment in Fifty Shades of Black.

Open Road Films has reportedly acquired the U.S. distribution rights for the film, which will be produced and financed by IM Global.

Marlon Wayans will co-write the Fifty Shades spoof alongside his longtime collaborator Rick Alvarez. Alvarez will also work with Wayans and Stuart Ford as a producer. Glendon Palmer, Matt Jackson, and Steve Squillante from IM Global will be listed as the executive producers for the Michael Tiddes-directed film.

Michael Tiddes also directed both movies from the Haunted House franchise. which also starred Marlon Wayans in the leading role.

Behind the scenes, everything seems to be the same with the Fifty Shades of Black movie — from the U.S. distribution rights to the significant role played by IM Global.

Marlon Wayans opened up about the Fifty Shades spoof along with the opportunity that he had to conduct business with IM Global again for another potential box-office hit movie.

“We’re excited to be back in business with IM Global doing our comedic remix of this movie. Sex and comedy go hand-in-hand and I’m looking forward to having fun with this project. It’s amazing when a film of this caliber comes along begging to be made fun of. I’m really happy to be doing what I love with people I love to do it with. That double entendre was intentional.”

If the Fifty Shades spoof is at least commercially successful, chances are that Marlon Wayans will develop another spoof franchise to correspond with the follow-up sequels to the Fifty Shades of Grey movies.

The Fifty Shades spoof, Fifty Shades of Black, is currently scheduled to start filming in Los Angeles this summer with a release date of January 26, 2016.
