Mom Killed Over Grades? University Of Alabama Student Confessed To Killing Mom With Baseball Bat, Police Say

Mom killed over grades in Alabama? Police believe that Tyler Ryan Blansit, 22, killed his mother after they argued over his college grades on Friday afternoon. Mentone Police Chief Brad Gregg said the University of Alabama at Birmingham student got into a “heated argument” with his mother, Sherry Blansit, and hit her with a baseball bat.

Tyler Blansit called 911 after he allegedly killed his mom over grades. DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said Sherry Blansit was found dead in the backyard when first responders arrived on the scene. Mentone is a small town located in the northeast region of the state, with a population of approximately 500 people.

The University of Alabama student ultimately confessed to killing his mom over grades, according to Sheriff Harris. Sherry Blansit, 45, died of blunt force trauma, according to police reports. Dekalb County investigators reportedly found scratches on Tyler Ryan Blansit when they interviewed him at the scene of his mother’s murder, indicating that a struggle between mother and son may have occurred.

The Alabama college student’s father was was at work during the baseball bat attack. He told law enforcement officers that Tyler Blansit had been home from the University of Alabama for several weeks, and the family was waiting on his grades to arrive. The 22-year-old college student was the couple’s only child.

Sheriff Harris described the Blansit murder as “brutal” and noted that such horrific violence is not something his deputies typically deal with in the area.

“Usually we’ll have calls where a parent has whipped a child because of grades, a child has run away because of bad grades, but we’ve never had anything like this happen,” the DeKalb County Sheriff added. “It’s just one of those things you can’t explain; we’ll never be able to explain what went through his mind, why he snapped and did this.”

Tyler Ryan Blansit was charged with murder and is currently behind bars awaiting trial.
