‘Fast & Furious 8’ To Be Set In New York, Coming In April 2017, Teases Vin Diesel

Furious 8 will be released in the very near future. That’s a certainty after the monumental success of Furious 7, which has grossed just under $1.5 billion since its release at the start of April.

But after the daredevil antics of the latest installment to the franchise, it’s hard to know how they’ll top it. Vin Diesel looks as if he has figured out the perfect answer to that quandary, though, as the actor has teased that Furious 8 will be set in New York City.

Vin Diesel took to his Instagram on Tuesday to make the tantalizing tease as he also suggested that it would be ready for the summer of 2017. Vin Diesel captioned his post with, “#TorretoTuesday,” before he then uploaded an image that included the title Fast & Furious 8 against a picture of the New York skyline.

That image instantly led fans of the franchise to leap to the conclusion that Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, and Chris Bridges will be re-teaming for another over-the-top, bombastic but hugely enjoyable cinematic ride in just under two year’s time, and that on this occasion it will be in the confined streets of NYC.

At the end of April, Vin Diesel confirmed during his appearance at CinemaCon that Furious 8 would be released on April 14, 2017. Meanwhile, on Jimmy Kimmel Live back in March, Diesel stated that Kurt Russell’s Mr Nobody, who made his debut in Furious 7, will be fleshed out over the next few films, and will eventually turn into an integral member of the crew.

Diesel also explained that Paul Walker, who starred in the first seven installments to the Fast & Furious franchise before he died during a break in production on Furious 7, had insisted that Furious 8 was a formality.

While talking to MTV after the 2015 MTV Movie Awards, via Comic Book, Diesel emotionally explained, “Well, I was trying to keep it close to the vest throughout the release. Paul [Walker] used to say that eight was guaranteed. And in some ways, when your brother guarantees something, you sometimes feel like you have to make sure it comes to pass. So if fate has it, fate..F8…if fate has it, then you’ll get this when you hear about it. Seven was for Paul, eight is from Paul.”

If Furious 8 was set and filmed in New York, this would mark the first occasion that the Big Apple has been incorporated into the franchise.
