Dancing Man Sean O’Brien Gets Star-Studded Dance Party After Being Targeted By Cyber Bullies

Dancing Man Sean O’Brien finally got his star-studded party this weekend, an amazing end to a story that started out quite ugly.

The businessman from Britain became an unwitting and unwilling internet celebrity when a cyber bully snapped a picture of him dancing earlier this year and posted it on the image-sharing board 4Chan.

“Spotted this specimen trying to dance the other week,” the person wrote, with one picture of O’Brien dancing and the next with him hanging his head in shame. “He stopped when he saw us laughing.”

But the picture didn’t have the intended effect. Instead of mocking the man, thousands took to the internet to support him and even organize a dance party with O’Brien as the guest of honor. A number of celebrities joined the cause, including singers Pharrell Williams, Ellie Goulding, and musician Moby.

The Dancing Man said the party, which took place this weekend in Los Angeles, was life-changing.

“It was daunting at first. I was a bit worried about how it all happened but it’s turned into the most wonderful journey, I’ve met some of the most wonderful people you can imagine,” he told Good Morning Britain on Monday.

The Dancing Man actually had quite an extended party. Even before he went to Los Angeles for this weekend’s bash, O’Brien was shaking it up in New York City on the Today show set.

O’Brien joined singer Meghan Trainor for a performance of “All About That Bass” and talked about the party.

“It’s completely surreal. It’s something I never thought would happen to me. It’s completely amazing. There’s so many good people out there in the world, and what did happen to me, it touched a lot of nerves. The more we can do and the better we can do [against] cyber-bullying is fantastic.”

Trainor is certainly down with the cause. Her song “All About That Bass” is an anthem of self-acceptance and said she’s amazed to see how many people have been touched by it.

“There is a study in the States that found the number of girls who hate their bodies has doubled. My three-minute song has helped a lot of people. It’s shocking that it only took a three-minute song. One father came up to me after a show and said, ‘You saved my daughter’s life.’ It’s incredible, it’s crazy. It’s been an epic year.”

The Dancing Man got a lot more than just a party. The event also raised more than $70,000 for the anti-cyberbullying organization The Cybersmile Foundation.`
