What better way to usher in the start of a brand new month than to celebrate arguably the most iconic superhero ever created. Yep, that’s right — May Day is also officially Batman Day .
Batman Day is celebrated on May 1 every year because this is the month when the character first appeared in Detective Comics No. 27, which originally hit shelves in May, 1939. Of course, we all know that this was only the beginning, because Gotham’s savior has since appeared in numerous different facets of pop culture over the last 76 years.
But what are the best ways to celebrate Bruce Wayne and his heroic alter-ego? Well, if you’re struggling for options, why not dabble in one of the ones below?
Read A Batman Comic
Why not celebrate Batman’s origins by leafing through one of his first stories? At first, Batman wasn’t afraid to kill his criminals. In fact, in his very first issue, he kills Stryker by punching him into a tank of acid before he then delivers a quip about it.
Meanwhile, you could even dabble with the series that focused on Batman being hooked on the drug “Venom” (“Legends Of The Dark Knight”), or read about Batman tackling his most famous foe, The Joker, in Killing Joke, or look forward to the upcoming cinematic superhero hybrid with Man Of Steel No. 3, which saw Batman stop Superman without Kryptonite.
Relive Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Saga
While there’s no denying the fact that Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, Joel Schumacher, Val Kilmer, Leslie Martinson, and Adam West’s Batman films each have their charm (Sorry Mr. Clooney), Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale’s Dark Knight saga is rightfully regarded as the definitive telling of the superhero.
Dark, complex, but still packed to the brim with unique and death-defying action scenes, Nolan helped to mature the superhero genre and these films have influenced every other film of the same ilk since.

But The Dark Knight saga is the past, and Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice is the future. So forget Bale and Nolan and look forward to Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck going toe-to-toe with each other by taking in the clearest look at Affleck’s Batman yet. You could also just watch the trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice again for the umpteenth time too.
Go And Watch Avengers: Age Of Ultron
Okay, maybe it’s part of DC’s most heated rivals, but Avengers: Age Of Ultron is a rollicking comic-book adaptation that is thoroughly entertaining and sees Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor and Captain America saving the world from the dastardly Ultron in explosive and enthralling fashion.
Eat Mulligatawny Soup
This might sound like an odd thing, but Batman’s favorite food is mulligatawny soup. This was revealed in Batman #701 when Bruce Wayne’s butler welcomed him back to Wayne Mansion with, “I prepared mulligatawny soup, your favourite.”
Basically anyone who wants to imitate the superhero should start guzzling down the liquid by the bowl full. You can see the proof of Batman’s love for soup below.
