The Chrysler Ram Pickup is about to get a little competition. Nissan announced today that the 2015 Nissan Titan will also feature a Cumins V8 Turbodiesel V8 engine.

UPI reports that the Chrysler Ram attracts many of its customers because of the big “C TURBO DIESEL” logo on the back of the truck. Nissan has struck a deal with Cummins and will now start using their engines on the 2015 Nissan Titan.

Nissan spokesman Dan Bedore didn’t say how the company was planning on advertising the new engine but he did say that the company would be leveraging the Cummins brand name.

Bedore said: “We will definitely leverage the Cummins brand name.”

AutoWeek notes that Cummins engines have become known for low maintenance, good fuel economy, power and long life. Chrysler and Nissan will both start using a Cummins engine in 2015 but the engines won’t be identical. The ram uses 6.7-liter inline-six while the new Titan will use a 5.0-liter V8.

The two engines are not identical but the logo could be the same. Cummins spokesman Dave Groggin said that the logo on the back of a Chrysler Ram is a Cummins logo.

Groggin said: “It’s our logo, not a Ram logo. We worked with Ram on the logo and we’ll work with Nissan. Clearly both automakers see value having our logo on the side of their vehicles.”

Chrysler has not commented on the new 2015 Nissan Titan or if they think the new engine will effect sales.
