Rebel Wilson Praises Positive Body Image In ‘Pitch Perfect’ Victoria’s Secret Slam, Confirms ‘Pitch Perfect 3’
Rebel Wilson tackled positive body image by achieving a Victoria’s Secret parody that earned cheers at the MTV Movie Awards. In addition, the actress made a pitch for Pitch Perfect 2, reported People.
With the word “Think” labeled on her derriere and Victoria’s Secret Angel-style wings, Rebel dressed up in a bra top and leggings to offer her musings on Pitch Perfect 2. Wilson emphasized in a post-show interview that she wanted to send a message to her fans that they should love their bodies regardless of their size.
“The ‘Bella’ girls are all different shape and sizes and nationalities. I think one of the good messages in the movie is that you’re all beautiful. I think sometimes girls look at Victoria’s Secret models and think that they have to model themselves after that, but I really don’t think that’s the best, even though they are called ‘models,’ they’re not the best people to model yourself after. I like to encourage girls to think, which is why I put that on my butt.”
Rebel also emphasized that positive body image can be achieved by focusing on emotional health rather than on shape or weight.
“It’s really about what’s up here,” she said, gesturing to her head, “and not what’s here,” she added, pointing to her derriere.
However, Wilson admitted that there was an unexpected up side to those Victoria’s Secret wings.
“The wings are slightly uncomfortable, especially when people knock into you. But it’s good — this will be my cardio for the day. I had to walk up three flights of stairs while wearing these, and these are about twenty pounds.”
As far as the famous Barden Bellas, Rebel also shared a Pitch Perfect 2 clip displaying girl power, reported Yahoo News.
Included in the clip are Birgitte Sorensen and David Cross. What’s not known, however, is which stars in addition to Rebel will be teaming up for Pitch Perfect 3. However, the actress confirmed that she will be starring in that sequel.
Pitch Perfect 2 is directed by Elizabeth Banks and also stars Anna Kendrick, Hailee Steinfeld, Brittany Snow, and Katey Sagal. It opens in theaters in May.
Rebel Wilson isn’t alone in speaking out about the importance of positive body image. As the Inquisitr reported, Demi Moore’s daughter Tallulah Willis recently opened up about struggling with body dysmorphia.
“[I would be] reading those stupid f***ing tabloids when I was like, 13, feeling like I was just ugly, always. I believed the strangers more than the people that loved me, because why would the people that loved me be honest?” Tallulah recalled.
The negative comments about her body caused her to starve herself.
“I started starving myself and… I got down to 95 pounds. I lost my curves and my boobs shriveled up into like, nothing, and I had no shape and I was just saggy skin everywhere.”
And Tallulah has a message for other young women and girls who share her condition.
“If you don’t feel good about yourself in a physical way just don’t look in the mirror, because nine times out of 10, I’ll feel great and then I’ll actually look myself and that’s when I start to feel like [I need to change things],” she admitted.
