‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Freddie Smith’s Sonny Kiriakis Leaving Salem For Good?

Days of Our Lives fans may have cause for concern. Rumors are flying around the internet that Freddie Smith, who plays fan favorite character Sonny Kiriakis, may be leaving the NBC soap, or could have possibly already left the long running show.

According to the Back Lot, some fans have been chatting online about the rumors that Freddie Smith’s Sonny could be leaving Salem for good. Some online chatter claims that Freddie will be leaving soon, while others claims Smith already left the soap. While NBC has not confirmed the online rumors, Days fans are keeping their fingers crossed that the gossip isn’t true.

If for some reason Freddie Smith did leave Days of Our Lives, he would still be seen on television screens for the next five to six months as the show films that far in advance. However, since Freddie’s character Sonny Kiriakis is such a beloved part of the show, and is currently in the middle of a huge storyline with his husband Will Horton and former lover Paul Norita, it is hard to see Sonny gone from Salem.

If Smith were to leave, it’s a possibility that the character could be recast much like Will Horton’s character was taken over by Guy Wilson, after Chandler Massey caused a huge stir by stepping away from the soap after doing some great work and eventually winning an Emmy Award for his portrayal as the character.

The rumors of Freddie Smith’s possible exit from Days of Our Lives have die hard fans upset as they’ve already lost so many characters from Salem over the past months. Most recently Jordan Ridgeway left town, and fan favorites Sami Brady, played by Alison Sweeney, and EJ DiMera, portrayed by James Scott, left the show, and a huge hole in the soap’s storyline.

However, Music Times reports that Alison Sweeney has agreed to return to the series to help celebrate the soap’s 50th anniversary. Sami Brady will return to Salem later this year, but there is no word on how long Sami will stick around, and if Alison’s Emmy nomination will factor in to her decision about whether or not to come back to the show.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, other Salem residents are also going through some serious drama. Brady Black will soon find out that his ex-girlfriend, Kristen DiMera, stole his unborn baby, whose mother is Theresa Donovan, and Paul Norita will learn that John Black is his biological father.
