Games With Gold Drops Six Free Games In April Between Xbox One And 360

Microsoft promised extra free games as part of its Games with Gold program for the month of April. The company detailed what that meant Thursday by announcing the free Xbox One and Xbox 360 game line-up for next month. It’s actually pretty good though dependent on your tastes.

“We want to celebrate our fantastic Xbox Live community this April, and that’s why we’re so pleased to announce that Games with Gold will offer double the free games for April,” Microsoft announced on Xbox Wire. “That means Xbox One gamers get two awesome new titles, and Xbox 360 gamers get a whopping four games!”

Unfortunately, the first Xbox One retail release included in the March Games with Gold line-up was not repeated for April. The good news is that a brand new ID@Xbox title is included along with a gorgeous downloadable role-playing title from Ubisoft.

Both Child of Light and Pool Nation FX will be free to download on the Xbox One for Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers in the month of April.

Child of Light is a platformer / role-playing hybrid title of a young girl’s quest to return home to her father in the mythical land of Lemuria. Along the way, she must also recover the light of the sun, moon, and stars. The game received average scores per Metacritic, where it was praised for its art style, but did get knocked for the narrative and shortness.

Pool Nation (Xbox One, PC)

Pool Nation FX is the Xbox One port of the billiards PC release that’s been available on Steam for more than a year. It’s a pool simulation with multiple modes for single-player and multiplayer that also features numerous trick shot opportunities and the ability to come up with your own rule set.

While the Xbox One releases are on the small side, the Xbox 360 gets three retail releases and one popular Xbox LIVE Arcade title.

Gears of War: Judgement (Xbox 360)

Gears of War: Judgment will be free to download from April 1 to 15. This is a prequel to the Gears trilogy that tells the tale of the early days of the war with the Locust from the eyes of Damon Baird, Cole Train, and the rest of Kilo Squad. It wasn’t as well received as the first three titles in the series, but it is a decent edition with some new multiplayer options.

Terraria (Xbox 360)

Terraria joins Judgment as part of the free offerings for the Xbox 360 in the first half of April. It’s a side-scrolling adventure with elements of Minecraft. The developers behind the game are still putting out updates too so it is constantly growing.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (Xbox 360)

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag headlines the free titles for April 16 through 30. The pirate meets assassins adventure is a can’t miss at the price of $0.00.

Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel (Xbox 360)

Finally, Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel finishes off the free Xbox 360 games for the second half of April. The third-person co-op shooter was a bit of a stinker from a reviewer standpoint but can provide a decent amount of fun when played with a buddy.
