Bradley Cooper Possibly Directing ‘A Star Is Born’ Remake

Bradley Cooper is in talks to make his directing debut with an update of the classic film, A Star is Born. Cooper, who was just recently hailed by critics and audiences for his performance in American Sniper, may also be portray the role of the lead male character in the film.

According to Deadline, the remake was initially going to be directed by Clint Eastwood, and Beyoncé was in talks to be the lead actress in the film. At that time, Bradley Cooper was already being discussed as possibly being the male lead, and Beyoncé was going to play the starring role. With Cooper now taking over directing duties, it has not been confirmed if she will sign back on for the starring role.

Cooper has not confirmed if he will also be acting in the film, but his name has not been the only one to pop up since the project was first announced. Other actors that were once rumored to play the role include Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Christian Bale, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Bradley Cooper’s directing debut will mark the third time that A Star is Born has been remade. The original version premiered in 1937, with William Wellman as the director and Janet Gaynor and Frederick March as the leads. George Cukor then helmed a 1954 version with stars Judy Garland and James Mason, and Frank Pierson directed Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson for another version released in 1976.

Just a few weeks ago, Eastwood told the Hollywood Reporter that he was still attached to directing the film, but he did note some of the difficulties that were plaguing it from moving forward.

“I talked about that for a while with Warner Brothers’ people, and we’re still playing with that idea. But the problem at the beginning [was] they were more infatuated with just the idea of the casting. They were talking about having Beyoncé in it, and she was very popular, but she also is very active and it’s hard to get a time scheduled, so we never could get that worked out.”

Eastwood also noted that he was planning to work on another project, but he didn’t reveal any details on it. And with Bradley Cooper now taking over as director, Eastwood hasn’t revealed his exact reasons for no longer directing the Star is Born remake.

In addition to possibly making his directorial debut soon, the Oscar-nominated Bradley Cooper is also scheduled to re-team with his American Sniper co-star, Sienna Miller. In a related report from the Inquisitr, Cooper and Miller will work together again on the John Wells-directed drama, Chef.
