American Horror Story actor Ben Woolf is in critical condition today after being hit by a car on Thursday evening.

Woolf was reportedly hit near Hollywood Boulevard and sustained serious head injuries; police say the driver of the car was not charged with any wrongdoing.

Woolf has been part of the American Horror Story cast since 2011, and most recently played “Meep” during the show’s fourth season. When he isn’t working as an actor, he is a preschool teacher , and those who know him were shocked to hear about the accident.

“Ben is one of the kindest and hardest-working people I know. His condition remains critical at this time, and we ask that everyone please keep Ben in your thoughts and prayers, and respect his family’s privacy during this time,” Woolf’s publicist, Zack Teperman, said in a statement.

Woolf said in an FX interview that he was diagnosed with pituitary dwarfism at a young age and stands at 4’4? tall. He was reportedly hit in the head by the side mirror of the car involved, which badly injured his head.

It’s unclear whether Woolf was slated to appear on the next season of American Horror Story or how his injuries might affect the show from moving forward. The most recent season, Freak Show , was reportedly the last for veteran actress Jessica Lange, who said she might want to make the move back to the big screen. However, Denis O’Hare said earlier this year that he would love to return in some form for Season 5.

“He would love for me to be in next season, but that’s an informal invitation. When I joined last year I signed a two year contract, so the idea is that I would come back for this year. But until he comes up with the idea and until he finds parts for us, we really have to wait. Last year I got a call, I think about mid-January, where he offered me Stanley, so this year if it all follows the same pattern I should be hearing from him sometime in January or February,” O’Hare told the Examiner .

There have been no updates on Woolf’s condition, though most news outlets are reporting that the actor was badly hurt. According to TMZ , the driver was not cited because Woolf was jaywalking when the accident occurred.
