The new video game releases for the week of February 8 are set to Evolve as the giant monster hunter game releases on Windows PC and consoles this week. The PC receives the majority of releases this week, while Evolve is the dominant release for the consoles. Gamers who are planning to bypass the safari on Shear will find solace in Hyrule as Majora’s Mask 3D releases this week for the Nintendo 3DS, as well as Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate .

Developer Turtle Rock studios releases Evolve for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One owners this week. Gamers will be taken to the Far Arm of space with the destination of Planet Shear. Evolve ‘s story is not terribly original: prospering distant colonies get overrun by nasty, giant aliens and it falls to the Guard….er…Hunters to battle it out with the big aliens. The hook to this specific game is that the 4 hunters and the alien are all controlled by the players.

Evolve ‘s developer, Turtle Rock, has a rich history with multi-player games that think outside of the box. Their inaugural title was a port of Counter-Strike on the original Xbox. Their first original IP, Left 4 Dead and its subsequent sequels put the studio on the map with the “Director,” an AI feature that adjusts the game session based on player progression so that every experience was different. With Evolve , the player is in the director’s chair as they inhabit the mean, nasty alien menace.

This Friday is also the release of Nintendo’s new 3DS, as well as The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D . The remake of the cult hit from 2000 on the Nintendo 64 is playable on all current 3DS systems, but the new system takes advantage of the new benefits in a big way. Head tracking 3D on the new 3DS is arguably the biggest feature allowing the gamer freedom of movement rather than having to sit ramrod stiff to play like an NPC in Oblivion . Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is also slated for release this week.
