New ‘Game Of Thrones’ Production Pics Have Massive Season 5 Spoilers For Tyrion, Danaerys, And Dragons

If you’re like most of the television-watching population of the world, the Game of Thrones Season 5 premiere can’t get here soon enough. Well, it’s not here yet, but there are some newly leaked pics from one of the most important scenes from this season of Game of Thrones, and spoilers do indeed abound.

If it wasn’t clear from the title and that “spoilers do abound” snippet, this post is definitely going to contain some spoilers for Game of Thrones‘ fifth season, so if you’d like to watch this season without finding out something monumental like Joffrey getting poisoned at his wedding, you’ll want to quit reading now. No apologies for that last one, it’s a spoiler post after all.

This most recent spoiler batch – by way of imgur via Reddit user Legazpi_ – likely comes out of the latter portion of this season, and it shows fan favorites Tyrion Lannister and Danaerys Targaryen together at what looks like a full-on massacre in the middle of Danaerys’ rule. That’s a spoiler in and of itself as it gives us an idea of Tyrion’s trajectory over the course of next season. He will wind up somehow making his way into the good graces of the Mother of Dragons, which is somewhat surprising, given Danaerys’ opinion of the Lannisters.

That last spoiler is actually even bigger than it might look at first blush, given that it actually confirms what some have suspected for quite some time. The Game of Thrones television series is going to outpace George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series of books, and it’s going to do so even sooner than fans of both expected. In the books, Tyrion is still sort of wandering on a strange and winding path, pretty far still from Danaerys’ court. This season of Game of Thrones, though, confirms Tyrion’s eventual arrival at Danaerys’ side. All that remains is to see how the Lannister imp manages to avoid becoming dragon food.

What else can we learn from the newest set of pictures? We’ve got Jorah Mormont apparently down in the fighting pits. It’s likely that Mormont finds his way down there as a result of Danaerys’ wrath. Mormont, you’ll recall, was exiled from Meereen in Game of Thrones‘ last season for spying on Danaerys for Westeros, so she’s not likely to be too happy that he found his way back into her domain.

What’s very interesting, though, is the apparent carnage that’s going on in and around the fighting pits. One shot shows Danaerys and crew down in the pit itself, facing off against something unseen while spectators in the background flee or lie dead. There are a lot of dead bodies there, so we’re thinking it may be a sign that the dragons, the ultimate weapons in the Game of Thrones mythos, have set themselves free and descended on Danaerys’ happy gathering. Well, “think” is a bit weak as a term; we’re pretty certain that’s what’s happened.

If you just can’t wait for the next season of Game of Thrones to kick off… well… you’re kind of going to have to. The good news is that you won’t have to wait too long; Game of Thrones starts its fifth season on Sunday, April 12, at 9 PM. Until then, you’ll have to bide your time with a half-hour Game of Thrones special, entitled “A Day in the Life.” That’s due out in February. Or you could just start reading the books, and then know the real pain of not knowing just when Martin will come out with The Winds of Winter.
