How Rockstar’s ‘Bully’ Might Look On PS4 And Xbox One, Recreated With Unreal Engine 4

Rockstar Games’ Bully is a title that gamers are hoping for either a remake or sequel for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. One university student decided to give us a look at what the open-world adventure game set in a New England boarding school might look like on modern gaming platforms by remaking the boys’ dormitory in Unreal Engine 4.

The nearly three-minute fly-through video is a fairly accurate recreation of the Bully dormitory with all sorts of references from the game and others sprinkled around. For example, while the Spud Gun is something the player can obtain in Bully, the poker table is remodeled from the original and branded after the Four Dragons casino in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The fact that it was re-created in Unreal Engine 4 by a single university student (with help for the music) is impressive. It’s a testament to the dedication of the student and the power of Unreal Engine 4.

YouTube user Wesley Arthur described it as, “A next/current-gen homage to one of my all-time favourite games, ‘Bully’ (also known as ‘Canis Canem Edit’) by Rockstar Games.”

“I’ve recreated the boys’ dormitory environment in Unreal 4 to demonstrate my prop art skills as a part of my Masters degree at Sheffield Hallam University,” he continued. “The level closely replicates the original layout in order to maximise its recognisability, but each asset has been carefully redesigned and built from scratch.”

He even created an art book to accompany the video to detail the methods and techniques he used to recreate the Bully boys dormitory.

Arthur describes himself as a Game Designer/Prop Artist and has one upcoming PlayStation 4 and PlayStation indie game under his belt called Aspect. It’s expected to be released sometime this year.

“A Final Year MArt Game Design student with a background in traditional art, computing and mathematics, who specialises in innovative approaches to game design and player experiences,” Arthur writes about himself in his resume. “Interested in player psychology and creating abnormal beauty in realistic prop art through close attention to fine details.”

Bully was originally released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2. The Scholarship Edition eventually made its way out to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii in 2008. Publisher Take-Two Interactive renewed the Bully trademark in 2013, as GameSpot reported. There have been rumors about Rockstar following up Grand Theft Auto V with a sequel either to Red Dead Redemption or Bully.
