Ndamukong Suh Might Be Dirty, But Likely The Most Charitable Player in the NFL

He’s not only dirty in the mind of fans – he’s dirty in the mind of his fellow NFL players. When asked “Who is the dirtiest player in the NFL?”, Suh got the most votes.

Ndamukong Suh, defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions, has a long history of being not-so-nice on the field. In fact, his NFL fines for his dirty moves, which encompass everything from making throat-slashing gestures to his most recent crime, trampling on a rival player, have forced him to pay almost $217,000 in fines. The National Football Leauge gives all of this money to charitable foundations.

In his latest professional snafu, Suh appeared to purposefully step on Green Bay Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers not once but twice during the most recent incident. Rodgers returned to the game after the first injury, only to be stepped on again by Suh.

The Packers’ Head Coach Mike McCarthy stated he did not see the play personally, but heard from people with the team who did and relayed the message to him that they thought Suh’s step was “dirty.”

“I didn’t see it live, I didn’t see it on the Jumbotron, but from what I’m told, I’m told it was ridiculous. There’s no place for that, so that’s where I’m at with it. I don’t understand it, frankly.”

Although he was suspended for a game after an official review of the tapes, this decision was overturned, one of the few appeals from NFL players to ever be overturned. Instead, he will pay a fine of $70,000, which will go to a charity that has thus far not been disclosed.

Although he has a history of being a brute on the field, many of his fellow teammates rushed to defend his actions, although Suh himself gave no official comment.

According to the Huffington Post, Lions center Dominic Raiola, coming off his own one-game ban for a similar incident, was angered by the suspension and chose to speak to reporters about his feelings.

“The play… he wasn’t even looking at (Rodgers). He was getting pushed back a little bit. It was ridiculous what Fox did right after it. It was crazy, watching it. I couldn’t even listen to those guys after he did it. There is no way, at that point in the game, that he did something like that on purpose. No way.”

Suh has been voted the dirtiest player in the NFL for four consecutive years by his fellow NFL players.

Although he is forced to pay fines for his dirty deeds, it doesn’t seem to stop his behavior on the field.
