Blake Lively Talks About Her Family’s Unusual Christmas Tradition
In a video posted by The Kit, Blake Lively revealed that her family’s Christmas celebrations included a seven-hour-long bed session. “Christmas is really just about being with family so we never leave the house,” Lively said in the video. “We’re together all day whether we’re making gingerbread houses or making cookies or sitting around watching movies, all piled up.”
An excited Lively says, “To me the smell of Christmas is spruce, because growing up in California, when those candles would come out, it was the only way that we got any kind of a winter. Cookies I get year round, pine I only get at Christmas.” Lively added, “I don’t know how my family does this but everybody gets in the same bed, somehow we just spend seven hours a day just chatting, it’s really nice to have that time.”
Lively also told The Kit that her parents Ernie and Elaine make delicious cookies, quipping that her father is “better about sharing them”.
Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds are expecting the arrival of their first child on early 2015, which makes this year’s Christmas celebrations extra special. In an interview with People last month, Reynolds said, “I don’t have a weak stomach. I’m good with diapers and diarrhea and all that kind of stuff because I have lots of nieces and nephews, so I’ve done it all before.” Reynolds added, “We don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl yet, but whatever it is, you have this tether to reality that never goes away.”
A couple of months back, Reynolds joked about what they will name their baby when the newborn finally arrives. “On the plane over here I was trying to think of baby names,” Ryan told Canada’s eTalk. “I don’t want a name that’s anything pretentious or, like, Hollywood-y. So I’m going with Excalibur Anaconda Reynolds…that’s if it’s a girl.”
Blake Lively made a name for herself when she starred as Serena van der Woodsen in the CW TV show Gossip Girl, and she has appeared in films such as The Town, Savages, The Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants, and Green Lantern. It was during the filming of Green Lantern that Blake met her future husband, Ryan Reynolds. Aside from acting, she also prides herself as a homemaker, and she even appeared on an episode of The Martha Stewart Show.
Before settling down with Reynolds, Lively went out with her Gossip Girl co-star, Penn Badgley. They ended their three-year relationship in 2010. A year later, Lively started going out with superstar Leonardo DiCaprio.
