Amy Adams ‘Today’ Interview Cancelled: Actress ‘Confused’ By Treatment From NBC Show

The Amy Adams vs. Today fiasco remains a magnet for controversy several days after her cancelled appearance on the program. The NBC show and The Weisntein Company — which is behind her latest film, Big Eyes — each issued statements about what happened Monday. The morning show decided to pull Adams’ scheduled interview after she allegedly refused to answer questions related to emails relating to the Sony hack.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr Adams was scheduled to do a piece with the Today show on Monday, but her visit was unexpectedly cancelled by NBC without explanation. Information later surfaced claiming that Amy left the studio because she did not want to answer questions about the emails, which revealed that she made two percent less than her male colleagues for her role in the award-winning film, American Hustle.

However, that’s not exactly how things came down. According to Deadline, which usually has very reliable sources, Today’s producers got upset when the red-head’s rep told them the actress wasn’t comfortable answering questions about the leaked emails. So they pulled the segment.

Amy Adams — who was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in the David O. Russell film — is a well-respected and popular actress in Hollywood. She is not known for diva-like behavior or storming off sets in a fit of temper. Now, The Weinstein Company, which is behind Big Eyes, has issued a statement to Deadline defending the actress.

“We firmly stand behind Amy Adams. We’ve been lucky enough to have had her talents grace several of our films. We are certain her fellow actors and directors would all agree, she is nothing but the consummate professional both on and off set. Amy decided to speak up for herself and express her disappointment that Today would feel the need to ask her a question she did not feel comfortable and rather than respect her opinion or continue the discussion, the reaction was to pull her appearance from the show.”

Similarly, Today issued their own statement trying to defend themselves after coming under scrutiny for the way in which they allegedly treated Amy Adams, who reportedly stayed an extra day following her appearance on Saturday Night Live to do the NBC morning talk show.

“As a news program, the Today show doesn’t allow guests to dictate restrictions on interviews. In this case, after hours of discussion we felt uncomfortable with the demands being made and we determined the best course of action for all parties involved was to cancel the interview.”

The website is also reporting that after Today producers told Adams’ people they would not let her dictate what they could ask because they’re a “news show.” Amy Adams politely said she felt uncomfortable with the questions and would prefer to talk about her movie, since the segment was only four-minutes long.

Adams expressed her incredulity at her treatment from the Today show at a screening for Big Eyes in Los Angeles as reported by USA Today.

“I expressed that I was uncomfortable, I said I would rather not add my voice to this conversation, but it was clear they were drawing a hard line. That this would be part of the conversation.”

“I walked away from the conversation and went up to the room to do the interview. I assumed they were going to ask me about (Sony hacking). And I was prepared for that, to whatever degree I was prepared.”

“I was informed that they had decided to pull the interview, I was confused and definitely frustrated. I still don’t understand.”

What do you think about the Amy Adams non-interview with the Today show? Should NBC have gone ahead with the interview?
