Panola County Manhunt: Video Surveillance May Reveal Who Burned Jessica Chambers Alive [Video]

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Panola County Sheriff’s Office are diligently analyzing any and all information they can get their hands on, including phone records and interviewing witnesses, in order to find who set 19-year-old Jessica Chambers on fire and burned her alive. But are they any closer to a suspect?

Saturday night, Jessica called her mom, Lisa Chambers, at 6:48 p.m. Lisa remembers the phone call vividly, as reported by D.C. Beacon. Jessica told her mom she had gone out to clean her car and get something to eat.

“She (Jessica) said ‘Bye, I love you, mama. See you in a little while.'”

Jessica never made it back home.

The newest information submitted to authorities is a surveillance video from a gas station in Courtland, showing Jessica Chambers in her final moments on this earth. According to WMC Action News 5, the footage shows Jessica walking towards the gas station before someone she knows catches her attention out of the camera’s view.

Jessica waves and then walks over to the person, again, out of the camera’s view. The footage also captured a man in a stripe shirt filling up a gas can, who also walks off in the same direction as Jessica. This man has been cleared by police.

Jessica is then seen returning to her car, she finishes pumping gas and drives away.

WMC Action News 5 reveals this recording was made approximately only 90 minutes before Jessica was burned alive less than one mile from the gas station where it was recorded.

There is a serious manhunt for the person or persons responsible for Jessica’s horrendous fate. There have been indications of clues, but no arrest just yet.

Jessica’s father, Ben Chambers, who works as a mechanic for the Panola County Sheriff’s Office, whole-heartedly believes the police will find who killed his daughter and bring them to justice. He says Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby is the best sheriff in the world, but Chambers doesn’t expect an arrest overnight. He knows investigations take time. And no stone will be left unturned as the details are unraveled from the events of Saturday night.

According to D.C. Beacon, police received a call about a car being on fire near Highway 51 in Courtland. Jessica was in flames near her car. Her dad, Ben painfully reveals what authorities found when they arrived at the scene.

“When the fire department got there, she was walking down the road on fire. Only part of her body that wasn’t burned was the bottom of her feet.”

As reported by Local 8 Now, Jessica was rushed to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis. She died shortly after. The doctors told Ben Chambers that there was nothing that could be done. She was unrecognizable as 98 percent of her body was burned.

“They said that as far as they could tell like they squirted fluid down her throat and up her nose because it just burned her on the inside so bad. Apparently they knocked her out. She had a big gash on top of her head.”

Mr. Chambers says his daughter tried to tell responders who killed her. Authorities will not reveal what few words Jessica struggled to utter.

Authorities say they believe the killer was actually inside Chambers’ car. The person hit her over the head to knock her out, began pouring fuel down her throat, and then set her on fire. Her family told police they have no idea of anyone who would ever want to hurt Jessica, and reported that she had no current boyfriend, as per the New York Daily News.

While most everything in the car was burnt and charred, police were able to recover Chambers’ cell phone on the road. Although no arrests have been made, and no one is yet in custody, Assistant District Attorney Jay Hale believes the evidence from Jessica’s cell phone should “help establish a timeline of the events of Chambers’ day on Saturday,” as per the Clarion Ledger.

“Certainly the sooner the better. We have our computer gurus in place that are in contact with these companies to see if we can get the information. At this point there’s no way to tell how long that could take.”

Jessica’s parents, Lisa and Ben Chambers, are devastated. Obviously heartbroken, her dad emotionally speaks about it, as reported by the New York Daily News.

“I love her you know, I’m so sorry Daddy wasn’t there for her. I’d trade places with her in a minute if I could. It takes my breath sometimes. It’s hard to even breathe.”
