Abu Dhabi officials have announced that a suspect has been arrested in the stabbing of an American teacher.
According to a previous report by the Inquisitr , an American mother was killed in an Abu Dhabi mall by an unidentified person who was fully clocked. The report went on to say that the 37-year-old teacher was at the Boutik Mall on Reem Island when she was attacked.
“Surveillance video capturing the suspect’s escape shows the individual wearing a black abaya, black gloves and a black face cover, also called a Niqab. An investigation into the suspect’s identity, including gender, is said to be underway,” reports the New York Daily News .
The woman who was stabbed has since been identified as Ibolya Ryan (pictured above), a kindergarten teacher and mother of 11-year-old twins. According to ABC News , Ryan was originally from Hungary but lived in Colorado. She had been teaching in the United Arab Emirates for more than a year while also mentoring other teachers.
According to NBC News , Saif Bin Zayed , minister of the interior for the United Arab Emirates, spoke at a news conference Wednesday and announced that a suspect has been arrested in the stabbing in Abu Dhabi. He said that the suspect was an Emirati national in her late 30s, though her name was not made available.
The suspect is also suspected of planting a bomb outside of an American doctor’s home in Abu Dhabi after the initial attack. Reports state that local police allegedly found bomb-making materials at the suspect’s home.
NBC News went on to say that a new video has been released by the Ministry of the Interior that shows the operation to find and arrest the suspect.
“The cloaked suspect is seen with a suitcase, and a white car is shown driving away. The video then shows heavily armed officers with bulletproof vests raiding a house — with the same white car parked outside. Waving guns, they handcuff and lead a female out. The female’s face is not shown — but further images show the same suitcase inside the car and a steering wheel covered in blood,” reports NBC News .
Police are still investigating the Abu Dhabi murder, but say the exact motive behind the stabbing is still unknown. According to ABC News , the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi did issue a warning on October 29 to U.S. citizens about an anonymous web posting that urged attacks against American teachers.
