Brock Lesnar To Sign With Bellator MMA? Bellator Planning On Offering Lesnar A Contract After His WWE Deal Expires

It’s no secret that current WWE champion Brock Lesnar is planning on a return to mixed martial arts after his WWE contract expires following WrestleMania 31 in March. Many people believe that it’s a slam-dunk that Lesnar will make his return to the UFC. However, UFC competitor Bellator MMA is planning to offer Lesnar an extremely lucrative contract, which they hope will convince Lesnar to join their organization.

Bellator president Scott Coker was interviewed by MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani on today’s edition of the MMA Hour, and Helwani asked Coker if Bellator was planning on offering Lesnar a contract at some point in 2015.

“That’s a good question,” Coker said. “We’ve had a conversation internally and it’s worth a conversation, but [signing Lesnar] is something we’ll pursue maybe later into January.”

Coker also told Helwani that Lesnar is exactly the kind of free agent that Bellator MMA is looking to acquire, as Bellator is looking to become more of a legitimate competitor to the UFC in 2015.

“I would say, look, any fighter that’s out there or any star athlete – not star athlete in the sense of a baseball player, but like a Brock Lesnar – that really wants to fight, we’re going to have a conversation with them. Because if they can move the needle, we’re going to want them on Spike TV.

“I think that [Lesnar] is a big needle mover. There have been several years that have passed and I think that he still has the WWE limelight. So, I think that [Lesnar] still has a lot of star power, but to come back and say, ‘Hey, I want to train, I want to commit, I want fight’, that’s going to be a big commitment on his part. We haven’t had a conversation yet, but we’d like to at some point.”

Coker is trying to make Bellator MMA the new PRIDE, which means having a pro wrestling type feel, and putting on gigantic, super fights several times a year. So signing someone like Lesnar, who was a mega star in the UFC, would take Bellator in that direction.

It’s also rumored that Coker is looking at bringing former WWE star CM Punk into Bellator MMA. Punk has been doing extensive MMA training as of late, but has not yet made it clear that he intends to fight professionally at some point in the near future.

With the right offers, Coker and Bellator MMA could very well end up with both CM Punk and Brock Lesnar after the new year, and that would surely put Bellator MMA on the UFC’s level, at least for a short period of time.
