Popular DJ Calvin Harris surprised fans when he backed out from a performance at the MTV European Music Awards due to a mysterious medical malady described as “heart problems.”
According to the Independent , the message came from Calvin Harris’ own Twitter page. Harris announced he wouldn’t be taking part in the awards ceremony or performing any music because of his heart. Calvin’s tweet is no longer available, but at the time of its posting it read:
“No EMAs for me this weekend. Got some heart problems. Heading home to see if it can be fixed x.”
Fans were left to speculate what Calvin Harris’ heart troubles could be and many were quick to tweet back at him with worried get-well-soon messages. Among those well-wishers were Des Clarke and Jennie Cook from Capital FM.

According to Express, the organizers of the event were stunned and thoroughly disappointed to learn that Calvin Harris’ health issues would prevent him from performing. The Facebook page of the MTV European Music Awards commented on Calvin Harris backing out of the performance, releasing the following statement:
“We have some really sad news. Calvin Harris has taken ill and will not be able to perform at tomorrow’s show.”
Calvin Harris was set to perform in his home country of Scotland at the SSE Hydro Glasgow. The performance was going to take place on Sunday night along with singer John Newman. Calvin Harris was also nominated for several awards at the ceremony, including Best Electronic Act and Best U.K. and Ireland Act.
According to the Daily Mail , the event will be hosted by rapper Nicki Minaj and will feature an ensemble of huge stars , even without Calvin Harris on the lineup. Other performers include Ed Sheeran , Alicia Keys, Enrique Iglesias, Royal Blood, Kiesza, and U2. The theme of the ceremony has been announced as travel.
Harris has been in the news a lot lately for another sort of heart trouble. Calvin’s romance with Rita Ora has caused quite a stir due to the messy nature of their eventual breakup. According to various reports, Rita Ora was scheduled to perform on her own one night when Calvin Harris pulled some strings and had the performance canceled. Shortly after, Calvin Harris was spotted in public with a brand new girl.
