Melissa Rivers Suit: ‘Legal Powerhouse’ Hired As Melissa Plans To Sue Clinic After Her Mom’s Death

Melissa Rivers has plans to file a suit against Yorkville Endoscopy Clinic in the coming weeks. According to Mail Online, Joan Rivers’ daughter has hired quite the legal team, which is the first step that she has taken in the lawsuit process. Rivers will be represented by Gair, Gair, Conason, Steigman, Mackauf, Bloom & Rubinowitz, as she opens up a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the medical clinic whom she believes is responsible for her mother’s death.

“In order to fully determine all of the facts and circumstances surrounding the death of Joan Rivers we confirm that our firm has been engaged by Melissa Rivers and her family,” the firm told the Mail Online today.

Melissa Rivers’ suit will also name the doctors (Dr. Lawrence Cohen and Dr. Gwen Korovin) who performed a procedure on her mother’s throat back in August (Joan went into cardiac arrest and was on life support for one week before passing away). According to the New York Daily News, Dr. Korovin has already hired an attorney. It is believed that Korovin did an unscheduled biopsy while Joan Rivers was undergoing a throat procedure and her airways were blocked, causing her to stop breathing. It has been said that a biopsy of such nature is “serious” and should have been conducted at a hospital.

Joan’s cause of death was inconclusive because an autopsy was not performed, according to TMZ. It is believed that Joan’s death was “preventable.”

“Korovin maintains privileges at one of the city’s most prestigious hospitals. She is respected and admired by her peers in the medical community and she is revered by her patients,” said Dr. Korovin’s lawyer.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Melissa just inherited millions of dollars from her mother’s estate. Clearly some of that money is going to be used to find answers, and to make sure that something like this doesn’t happen again. Melissa has said it herself: She’s not looking to make money. She’s looking to hold someone accountable for what happened to her mother.

“Melissa plans to sue the medical center and the doctors in order to get to the root of the problem. She feels like she has been shut down after the New York Dept. of Health and Human Services found Yorkville Endoscopy LLC to be ‘deficient.’ She believes both the facility and Dept. of Health know what went wrong, but aren’t informing her of the exact cause.”
