Based on her book, this struggle with postpartum depression occurred after her first son, 6-year old Archie, was born back in 2008. Even though she has never tried antidepressants before in the past, Amy Poehler confesses in her memoir that she “probably should have” during that distressing time.

“I have never tried antidepressants. I probably should have after my first kid, when my postpartum blues felt deeper than I could handle.”

The 43-year old Parks and Recreation actress and Saturday Night Live alum states that she was able to learn a lot from the overall experience – especially when it came to finding out firsthand just how deeply depressed one person can become unexpectedly.

“Rubbing shoulders with that depression made me keenly aware of the difference between being depressed and being DEPRESSED.”

Since that experience, Amy Poehler was able to progressively “climb out of that dark place.” Back in 2010, she gave birth to her second son with Will Arnett – Abel. Although Will Arnett and Amy Poehler have divorced and gone their separate ways with new relationships since then, Amy talks very highly in her book about her co-parenting relationship with Will right now.

“I am proud of how my ex-husband Will and I have been taking care of our children. I am beyond grateful he is their father, and I don’t think a 10-year marriage constitutes failure.”

In addition to talking about her former husband, Amy Poehler also expresses just how much she loves her two boys.

“I love my boys so much I fear my heart will explode. I wonder if this love will crack open my chest and split me in half. It is scary, this love.”

Amy Poehler’s book, Yes, Please , is scheduled to be released on October 28, 2014. Quite a few people have already posted tweets about their excitement and anticipation over buying Amy Poehler’s book when it first becomes available.
