Robert Downey Jr. Hints At S.H.I.E.L.D. Cameos, Starting A Band With Gwyneth Paltrow, And Playing Doctor Who?

How would you like to see Robert Downey Jr. brightening up a dull episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? How about rocking a crowd in a band with Gwyneth Paltrow? Well, good news! RDJ would like to see those things just as much as you would!

Robert Downey Jr. has been all over the internets as of late promoting his new film The Judge, and the Iron Man star has been saying some pretty wacky things. Wednesday, though, held some of his wackiest material yet, as the megastar teased possible appearances on ABC’s Avengers-affiliated show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and other possibilities and fantasies.

Asked in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) what ongoing television show he would most be willing to guest star or do a cameo on, Downey quickly responded Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., no doubt sending the internet rumor mills into overdrive.

It’s just an internet post, but it’s definitely possible. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. already has Clark Gregg, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Agent Coulson, who first appeared in Marvel’s Avengers film universe. The show has also seen guest star turns from Marvel movie personalities already, including Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Jamie Alexander’s Lady Sif.

Getting Downey onto the small screen would be no small task, though, even though he’s already affiliated with the Disney-Marvel-ABC family. Downey pulled in $75 million last year, and it would likely be pricey to see him even pop his head into a room on the show.

Then again, a cameo on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could be just the sort of thing Downey was talking about on Tuesday when he first appeared to confirm and later walked back confirmation that there would be an Iron Man 4. In walking it back, Downey said that he was talking with Marvel about “other stuff” besides Iron Man 4, and this could be just the sort of thing that is under discussion.

“Nothing is impossible,” Downey said when asked about a turn on Agents. “But there might be a fair amount of red tape involved in something like that. I love Clark Gregg, and am pleased the show is doing so well.”

Downey Jr. also teased the possibility that he’d take on the lead role in a Doctor Who series. That is just fan fiction, though. Image via BFI.org.

He didn’t stop there, though. Downey also said “nothing is impossible” when asked if he would consider taking up the starring role in nerd-favorite series Doctor Who. Robert Downey, Jr. in the lead role of a Doctor Who series seems utterly impossible, but Downey said that he’d actually been watching the show of recent.

“It’s funny you’d bring that up,” Downey wrote. “A writer asked me to watch a particular episode about a month ago, in hopes of helping us break a story on a project. An incredible series. Anything’s possible.”

Downey on Doctor Who seems far less likely than a Downey guest spot on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but again, anything’s possible. Perhaps the best answer the actor gave, though, came when he was asked what stars he’d most like to form a rock band with.

“Me,” Downey started off, of course. “Jimmy Fallon, Jack Black, Jamie Fox… and… We’d all be the back line for Gwyneth Paltrow up front. ‘GP and the Goops.'”

The Redditors loved it, and one even did him one better on the name.

“Paltrow and Her Primadonnas.”
