‘Star Wars’ Obi-Wan Kenobi Trilogy In Development [Rumor]
We had previously heard that a Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off was being considered by Disney as the franchise moves forward. The talk now is that a new trilogy based on the character of the Jedi Master is currently in development.
According to Cinelinx, Lucasfilm is developing a trilogy based on the legendary character of the originals (played by Sir Alec Guiness) and prequels (Ewan McGregor). This is a little bit different from the rumor that surfaced over a year and a half ago, when the Star Wars spin-offs were officially announced.
At that time, the first character people talked about for future spin-offs was Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, this time around the rumors are that the iconic leader will be getting not only one film, but an entire trilogy, the website sources say.
“First up, they are not talking about an Obi-Wan spin-off movie but a trilogy of Obi-Wan movies. I need to stress that these movies are not connected. They aren’t part of a story arc but three separate Obi-Wan adventures set between Episodes III and IV.”
Where is this rumor coming from? Apparently this source has seen concept art the studio is currently working on based on different ideas. Possible spoilers ahead, beware!
“It seems like the three movie ideas are as follows: One set completely on Tatooine and two where Obi-Wan travels elsewhere in the Galaxy.”
“Qui-Gon Jinn is very much present in these stories. So too is Owen Lars. Several characters from the Clone Wars TV show would make an appearance. There would be flashbacks to Obi Wan fighting in the Clone Wars.”
How credible are these rumors? As credible as rumors can be, no matter how reliable the sources, the ultimate word comes from the studio and why would they devote three films to Obi-Wan when they have a lot of other characters to focus on?
A Star Wars spin-off based on the old Jedi (or young depending of what period of time we’re talking about) is very possible, according to several reports, but it is likely that Disney will want to explore other EU characters in depth, as opposed to focusing on one. Despite this, this particular source is apparently adamant about the fact that there will be three films about Obi-Wan Kenobi.
If that is indeed the case and we see a new Star Wars trilogy based on Obi-Wan Kenobi, would you be interested in seeing it or would you like to see other characters developed? Let us know in the comments below.
