‘Captain America 3,’ ‘Avengers 3’ Rumors, Hawkeye Spinoff: Jeremy Renner Opens The Rumor Floodgate

Captain America 3 is definitely happening, and Jeremy Renner has hinted that a Hawkeye spinoff may happen after all. Rumors are pointing to the possibility that Cap 3 may not feature Renner’s arrow-wielding hero, though Renner hasn’t discounted it yet.

Early talks about the third solo outing for Chris Evans‘ character point to his return alongside Sebastian Stan’s James “Bucky” Barnes. The chances are unlikely that Hawkeye will get much more than a cameo if he appears at all. Having signed on for Mission: Impossible 5, Renner could easily wear himself out filming two major action films simultaneously.

Jeremy Renner has told the press that he may be able to work an appearance into Cap 3, if they ask him.

“Oh, that’s a [rumor] all right! I don’t know what’s going to happen. I know it’s going to start shooting in March. I haven’t had any official conversations about doing it or not.”

Renner expanded with another source, “I’m happy to be the ensemble. I’m not scratching or clawing to do a solo movie by any means. I think he’s a utility guy that can bounce around into other people’s universes a little bit, especially like [Captain America 3].'”

If Renner only makes a minor appearance in the upcoming sequel, it won’t be the first time. He also had a similar appearance in the first Thor guarding Mjolnir at Agent Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) request.

Renner also indicated that a majority of the original cast will be returning for Avengers 3, after which there could be some major changes to the team.

“I think most actors will sign on to do, like … Captain America 1-3 and then The Avengers 1-3, and then you’re done. For me, I signed on to The Avengers 1-3 and then Hawk-Eye, in case they want to do a Hawkeye spin-off. It was fun to finally kind of discover who Clint Barton is a little bit.”

There could definitely be a Hawkeye spinoff if we can take what Jeremy Renner says as fact. Considering the rumored connection Hawkeye had with Black Widow in The Avengers, Scarlett Johansson could end up being one of the most popular crossover actors alongside Samuel L. Jackson.

If Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth return for Avengers 3, this could discount the possibility of previous rumors about the death of Captain America or a female Thor until possibly the third Avengers.

These are mostly rumors based on what Jeremy Renner has told the press, but if they’re true, Captain America 3 remains quite the mystery.
